As usual, it's a mix of both. Sometimes projects will come from market research, sometimes a particularly passionate developer will make an internal push to get their pet project in the schedule. There's no real way to know which is which, and neither is fundamentally good or bad... but you can probably assume that producer-side projects are the ones you don't like and developer-side projects are the ones you do.

Ah in any case, keep up the good work GW, I'm pleased with the direction the game has taken since 8th.

It genuinely mystifies me that people still are surprised by this. The Imperium are the protagonists of the 40K setting. Hell, the Imperium is the 40K setting, going right back to the original Rogue Trader. 'The Galaxy' and 'The Imperium' are virtually interchangeable terms. Then Chaos was made the primary antagonist in the RoC books, and have remained so for the 30 years since. Xenos have always been secondary and tertiary factions. Yet people still get all offended when GW states that, no, we're not going to do a Xenos vs. Xenos campaign. You might as well complain about the Star Wars movies always being Empire vs. Rebels and start demanding an Ewoks vs. Tusken movie.

This is simply not true.

RoC established Chaos as the primary antagonists as much as EWG established Orks as the primary antagonists.

Ewoks vs Tusken movie would be off the charts...probubly a breath of fresh air compared to the current happenings in the franchise...

But seriously we all know the imperium will always be center stage but a hero is only as good as it's villains. By fleshing out Xenos they are giving the imperium room to grow.

Basically, “feth you” if you’re not Imperium, is the only way to read this.

Yeah. Still fethin sucks though... these rules look cool. I guess my small CSM force my get some rules from it... but other than that. Ah well, maybe next time.

Previous narrative campaigns have had specific particpants. The Sisters of Battle were one of the main forces in the Sheild of Baal campaign, loads of fluff and wonderful images and did not get a single rule, model etc - sweet FA in fact.

The Tau are a minor power in one small part of the galaxy that makes it unusual that they would ever be involved in anything outside that tiny piece of space. Necrons are the opposite I agree.

As noted the Orks, GSC and Eldar are major particpants.

Renegade guard codex isn't "in the works" right now.

Ah well, there goes my small hopes dashed. Knew I shouldn't have expected anything.

See but that is corpo talk. If they say it like that this means they may make it at some time in the future. It is when they say stuff like no X is not coming back, you would have to worry. Not working on it right now, is their versions of politicians in the future aka just before elections we may be losing.

If OP hasn't seen them yet, they've shown official renders of a full SoB model as well as their new weapons and several head options to be included in the kits to come.

As someone who doesn't have any Primaris at the moment and no current plans to - I actually quite like the new Calgar model.

It pays homage to both previous sculpts and adds it's own modern spin with Gravis armour. I think it would look better with a helmeted version though

New Calgar looks exactly as awkward as old Calgar. It's probably fair to expect some level of improvement in a new sculpt but at least it isn't any worse.

It's been confirmed there's a helmet option in the kit, there's a picture of it floating around somewhere.

Amazing. I've been scouring the net trying to find it but no luck - anyone have a link?

I don't know how to feel about the part where it's the Art team that decides every new release. On one hand it means total freedom for the artists and that they're not oppressed by the business staff to work on imposed choices, but on the other it means a faction can be without significant release for a long time if they never feel inspired to work on them (thinking about Aeldari and their resin warriors). Can't have everything at once I guess.

I doubt this is the case in the first place. It just doesn't make much sense from a business perspective to put that much responsibility on artists (not to sound derogatory).

Not saying these are bold faced lies either, but the truth is probably somewhere inbetween the two extremes, where GW make a compromise between the demands of the board/analytics teams, the game designers and the artists.

In essence, I believe these statements to be regarding the final design of new releases and whether or not a sculpt is "fit for release" - not the release schedule as such.

I absolutely love the announcements, but have a couple of reservations.

- Bit miffed that it's a generic Chaos Lord being released. While it's a great model, this would have been a great chance for a plastic Abaddon.

- I love the Warbringer Titan, but have the feeling the rules are going to be a bit crap. Probably exactly the same as a regular Warlord stat-wise, except with Reaver weapons, 2x Quad Autocannons and the Mori Quake Cannon which the Warlord can take 2 of anyway, either that or a huge cannon which can still only target one unit at a time.

It's between warlord and reaver so expect mix of stats and costs.

More important though is when it comes in at. Game where titans don't actually break the system

I'm more enthused about the Primaris Honor guard than I am about Calgar. And I'm pretty enthused about Calgar. I really hope he is a the first of a trend.

I'd love to see Primaris Tiggy. And then Primaris Mephiston, Primaris Azreal.Primaris Ragnar.

I think they should use this to advance the storyline also. Cassius is old. Have him "die" mid surgery to become Primaris and end up as a character Redemptor dreadnought would be amazing. Like a combo Chaplain/Nid Vet Dread.

Nonsense. Ere We Go and Waaagh! The Orks never described orks as being an existential threat to reality itself. Chaos is literally the reason the Imperium is in the awful state it is in the 41st millennium. The orks never had that sort of in-universe impact.

Timeshadow wrote:Ewoks vs Tusken movie would be off the charts...probubly a breath of fresh air compared to the current happenings in the franchise...

I can't really disagree there, but it is still unrealistic to expect such a movie to be made. It doesn't fit the theme of the setting.
