Situtation came up in game. Pretty sure he was wrong but maybe i am and in any case reference as to why would be nice.

So. Enemy charged my lootas, shot and as target was very much alive kicked in show off and fired again. Here opponent arqued that just as advancing twice in one phase first shot count would be used for second round.

Sounded logical enough didn't halt game and hey long run this would be buff to orks. But as # haven't heard anybody play with leman russ like this feel something is missing...but what?

BRB Page 175, Modifying Characteristics Sidebar, Paragraph 3 wrote:You may encounter a characteristic that is a random value instead of a number. For example, a Move characteristic might be 2D6", or an Attacks value might be D6. When a unit with a random Move characteristic is selected to move, determine the entire unit’s move distance by rolling the indicated number of dice (pg 176). For all other characteristics, roll to determine the value on an individual – per-model – basis each time the unit makes attacks, inflicts damage, and so on. Note that, regardless of the source, characteristics of ‘-’ can never be modified, and the Strength, Toughness and Leadership characteristics of a model can never be modified below 1.
Emphasis mine. You would roll again to determine the number of shots. Your opponent was incorrect. The "Type" of a weapon is a Characteristic (Page 175, BRB, Section 8. Weapons, Paragraph 3) and the number in the "Type" determines how many attacks it makes (BRB, Page 180, Section 3. Choose Ranged Weapon, Subsection Weapon Types, Paragraph 1).
Codex special rule states the roll lasts until the end of the phase, thus overriding the general rule.

Good find but noticed loota datasheet specifically says value is until end of phase so that's codex disagreeing with rulebook. Which takes priority?

Opponent might have been right for wrong reason

That's a fair point, I missed that in the codex. My apologies. If it had been a Shokk Attack Gun you'd have to re-roll for the number of shots, but Deffguns indeed have a special rule.
