I mean, they look good on paper and this would be just to start out some new players using Power Levels. Specifically, I am wondering if it is worth the extra $$$ to order the Space Marine half of Dark Imperium, or just order the sets my boys want (Inceptors, Hellblasters and Intercessors) They are already using Captains with MC bolter and Relic blades, but for a 2nd battalion HQ, I am thinking the Gravis Captians might be great "out of the box" HQs for them and demote their current Captains to LTs (mostly because they are currently proxies using Intercessors with relic blades added on) Thoughts? -

If you can find one probably better to get a primaris captain with power fist and plasma pistol. Much better aesthetically and it packs a punch.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

I like them as an anchor Piece for late game, but I think they are a little pricey for what they do, over a captain since normally they are just babysitting providing re rolls for me.
Though the rumours are they are getting a points decrease in chapter approved so they may become more viable.

Personaly I love my Dark Angel one. I give him the Heavenfall blade relic and so he have 6 attacks at 2+ reroll 1s, S7 AP-3, D3 damage, on top of the powerfist if needed. He's quite tough too with T5 and 4++. Only downsides for me are his speed and his cost, but it seems CA will make them cheaper.

Personally looking for get the SM from Dark Imperium box. I want the banner and why not the Gravis Captain if he get point reduction. Also the 3 inceptor to complete my other 3.
But in my area no chance.
Go ahead, it is a damm good save

He's OK. He's probably the worst Captain SMs have to offer, but he's still a solid fighter if he can get into melee and Captains are a good HQ in general and you very much want a Captain+Lieutenant combo for your Marines.

They're OK. The problem is that these stupid greedy Gravis Captains have hogged excessive amount of expensive melee weapons. You really don't need a power fist and master crafted power sword, yet you're stuck with paying for both I mean, dear Gravis Captains, did you ever think that other Primaris characters would have liked to use those master.crafted swords? The poor bastard are stuck at plinking the enemies with their normal ones! C'mon guys, you already have the fist, you don't need the fancy sword too!

Someday, I dream of having my Gravis Captain, with my 3 man aggressor, and my LT in Gravis armor in my Repulsor pull up, disembark, and downrange 27-42, rerolling 1's to hit, and 1's to wound, shots.

Points currently aren't an issue at all as we are using PLs. I also think the model looks cool in a "could also be used as a Terminator Captain if we wanted too, or even just a regular Primaris Captain" kind of way.
Probably will try to magnetize a Plasma pistol in place of the Sword. That way it could indeed be a Primaris Cpt with Powerfist/plasma pistol.

He's really not the worst Captain offered. Compared to a regular Primaris Captain, you get more bang for your buck, and if you're just wanting the stock Captain for the rerolls you just go cheaper for a regular one. So I'd argue the Primaris Captain is the only one that doesn't really have a purpose in terms of crunch.

The other thing I like about him (that originally made me specifically overlook him, ironically) is the lack of options. He really is an "out of the box" model. I like that for beginners

I prefer my SM HQ's to be power armored with jump packs.
That lets them get their buff circle where they need it when they need it, and into the fray sooner if it's time to go beat face.
Because gravis armor captains are slow; I don't really thing particularly highly of them.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

True. Easy. For your kids a good option for expand SM. We will see after CA how this captain will remain.

I prefer the Plasma Pistol and Power Fist variant due to it allowing me to give him the Fist of Vengeance. But truthfully, if the Power Fist portion of the Boltstorm Gauntlet was separate somehow, I would take the Gravis Captain instead.
All three/four variations of Primaris Captains offer something interesting. And they are all getting price cuts, allegedly. So that will be cool.

We decided that my oldest will get the Gravis for his UMs to accompany his Hellblasters, while my youngest will get a Jump-pack Cpt with Relic blade and combi-melta for his Salamanders to accompany his Inceptors
The Salamander Cpt has thus far slain a Daemon Prince twice, so he wants to keep the Relic Blade. He also has a more mobile force, while the UM list is shaping up to be a bit more of a gunline.
Thanx for all the advice gang!
