Subject: fighting 'at the end of the fight phase'

Hi all,
So I need a rules clarification please. Something that came up in a tournament game, which i consider pretty sneaky and i'd avoid in 99% of games (getting a bit close to 'win at all costs' for my liking). However I play world eaters and my list is a long way off competitive so sometimes need to make use of sneaky tricks.
In the charge phase my unit of Berserkers declares charge against 2 units of 30 ork boys. I survived the over-watch and made a successful charge roll but intentionally only engage unit A i.e I stayed more than 1" away from any model in unit B.
After activating my berserkers to fight twice, I've wiped out unit A but I choose not consolidate within 1" of unit B so that he can't activate that unit and kill my remaining guys. Instead I wait to 'the end of the fight phase' and use Fury of Khorne stratagem to activate my Berserkers a third time.... pile-in to unit B, roll attacks and kill half the unit.
All of that is entirely legal and not particularly 'gamey'. However ....
His unit is now within an inch of mine but we are now after 'the end of the fight phase' - can he fight back? I think rules as written ... no because the fight phase has ended. I actually offered to let him fight back but he turned me down.
It obviously works well for Berserkers but many armies have a similar stratagem.

Yup you are correct. It is the end of the Fight Phase and therefore no one else can fight (unless they also have abilities that take affect at the end of the Fight Phase of course!).
Having said that, there are some potential issues here. Can the unit Fight, even with the stratagem, if they aren't within 1" of an enemy when you use the stratagem? You may face some opposition on that front.

Seems legit to me.

I don't know what that opposition could be. The unit charged this turn, so is eligible to be chosen to fight regardless of how far away it is from the enemy.
The only stipulation is that if you want to actually direct attacks against the enemy unit, you must have declared a charge against them (which the OP did).

Yeah, if the unit charged it can fight even if it's not within 1" of an enemy.

yes they can, the only 2 question to ask if you can fight are : did you charge, and if not, are you within one inch of an enemy model.
If you answered yes to any of those question, you can be choosen to fight to turn. and it's this turn, and not this phase (of course).

Quite right, checked the wording of the strat and the rulebook and I withdraw that objection!
As you say, totally legit. It will sting for the opponent the first time it happens to them, but thems the breaks.

Thanks guys, feel like my own decision is vindicated. Probably not something that would work very often but potentially a nice way to engage nasty combat units whilst reducing the hit back. I shall definitely reserve it for competitive scene though!

I'll be the awkward one and disagree. The fight again stratagem is triggered at the end of the fight phase. You should not go back and view who is eligible to fight after, the fight phase is done.

Are we talking about the same thing?
If you mean that the opponent cannot fight back after you've used the 'end of phase' stratagem, then I don't think anyone in this thread is disagreeing with you.
The only other discussion is whether you can use this stratagem if your unit is >1" from an enemy - which you can.
