Tempestus Scions are a very specialized unit. It’s a pretty good idea to just make a single unit have a single role, all plasma, all melta, etc. But, what are people’s opinions on Scion units (MSU, probably) equipped with grenade launchers (gl)? Gl are not specialist weapons, by any means, but with their points drop in CA18, are they worth it?
I’m considering building two gl Scion squads that can either drop down on objectives or drop down to assist other Scion squads, like hot-shot volley gun squads that I would theoretically send to objectives in Taurox Primes with Gatling Cannons.

Grenade Launchers fail to fulfill any role. Hell I'd even take Flamer Scions over Grenade Scions.

I think I would rather have hotshot lasguns. Maybe if you want a command squad running around at 24" I would take them. I guess if someone did the mathhammer and showed that grenade launchers were decent at something they would be worth considering. Scions are so expensive that it seems like a waste to use grenades.

At 3 pts per weapon Grenade Launchers are ABSOLUTELY autoinclude wherever possible now

Str6 ap1 multi damage could be quite useful in many cases. its basically everything a plasma gun does but with less ap less str 1 potential less shot and inconsistent damage but can potentially do more to chaff units with its mutli str 3 frag mode. but a lot of players seem to really hate generalist things. outside of probably tournament settings it should be fine. But on Scions? probably not. seems like a waste for an elite unit besides of throwaway points.

Plasma IS the generallist option though.... its better against everything except low toughness troops, but at that point you have enough lasguns that you can fire that the additional firepower from the frag grenade is negligible compared to the opportunity cost of getting rid of the plasma.
