So I’ve always been interested in eldar and I’m slowly piecing together a list. I always thought rangers had a great theme and considering they are a solid troop choice right now I bought a couple squads. My problem is the main theme of my army is wraith and I’m not sure how to load out my wraith guard. Initially I thought they would be objective secure units but the rangers are better at that job. I’m thinking I’ll put them in a wave serpent but I’m not sure how to load them out. The range on the d weapon is pretty pathetic and if they aren’t in cover there is a good chance they’ll get charged before they get a round of shooting off.

Both of them are extraordinarily powerful. D-scythes are great for multi targets, and wraithcannons are amazing at dealing with tanks and monsters.

But wraithguard are pretty expensive and require you to set them up relatively well and taking a wave serpent is a must with them.

Yeah so I’m just not sure what role they are better at for an Eldar army. If got a fully magnetized wraith knight, a bunch of bikes and guardians, a serpent, 2 squads of spiders and a couple fire prisims. I know they aren’t the most competitive choices in the codex but I want to try out some wraith.

Go ahead. Its just hard to deploy them overall. I think they work great in Iyanden lists.

I would only take Wraithcannons if you:
A) consistently face multi-wound models like big vehicles or monsters and
B) have a reliable delivery system

Granted B should be done regardless, by if you don't consistently face Knights or heavy mech, D-scythes are the way to go. They are better against a wider variety of targets and can really punish units attempting to assault the WG

Both ranged versions have their merits but if I am just taking 1 squad then it is D-scythes every time for me. With their auto-hits, they are nearly as effective as Wraithcannons against large targets and far better against infantry. Plus they have some protection from charges in their fearsome overwatch. Put them in a Wave Serpent and roast some priority targets.

Wraithcannon versions are perfect candidates to deploy using the Webway stratagem as they can pop up 9" away from a large target and blast it into the warp. The Beta rules means they can only come on from T2 onwards but also means that people are taking less bubble wrap.

Just realize that 5 wraithcannon guard coming from deepstrike aren't doing much. They need rerolls. so either Guide them or take more than 5.

Or spirit seer + wraithseer

You often want to drop the Guard in a place where the Seers cannot get to on foot.

The iyanden strategy to give a spiritseer a 12" re-roll all misses aura is very beneficial to cannon guard, some might say essential. I've played a bomb of ten cannons coming in from the webway buffed by the strategy, let's just say it was quite effective...
