Fun - indeed.
The AM detachments alone will bring you and the enemy/opponent some fun.

I liked the larger Guard detachment better. While Shield Captains are great, they can't be everywhere at once. You already have a hammer unit with the Paladins, it feels like this is repetitive.

Halberds on paladins go a bit further against higher toughness units than swords or falchion and with 3 attacks and +1 from ancient, I will be dishing 40 attacks out, which is a bit of overkill against hordes.

So halberds allow me to threaten t4, t5, t7, and t8 better.

Been toying with this list. The thought was that the paladins are a hammer, but are slow...so I would use the dawneagles to corral, assassinate, and tie up shoot units. I am also adding to the 2+ save saturation.

I get the additional long range fire power though.

Hey Smotejob. Cool list. On the subject of Falchions vs. Halberds for Paladin, here's the math:

Unbuffed — Halberds win against T5 & T8. Falchions win against T3, T6, T7. They're tied against T4. Graph below.
Spoiler:

Hammerhand — Halberds win against T8. Falchions win against T3, T4, T6, T7. They're tied against T5. Graph below.
Spoiler:

+1 Attack (from Ancient) — Halberds win against T4, T5, and T8. Falchions win against T3, T6, T7. Graph below.
Spoiler:

So it's complicated. If you anticipate charging T8 Knights then Halberds are what you want. Against more typical T6 & T7 vehicles/monsters Falchions are still the right call.

T6 and t7 stuff doesn't worry me as much. My meta has a lot of knights, so I am optimizing for those a bit more.

T4 and t8 is what I will be fighting against more often so I like my halberd. Won't see much t5, but I'll take my halberds there too.

T6 I doubt I will see much of beyond dawneagle custodes captains(who should be scared to charge a paladin squad). T7 stuff are usually single models with no more than 12 wounds, and a 9 body paladin unit can typically do 20+ wounds... So briniging more optimization against t7 is wasted.

Genestealers and orks are very likely sights too and tend to come in large blobs. Halberds again pull ahead.

Not worried about t3. Most t3 I will cripple in shooting anyway.
