Subject: Anyone noticed a recent change in Agrax Earthshade?

Nurgle Chosen Marine on a Palanquin
|
Just picked up a bottle of Agrax Earthshade and its quite different from my previous bottle. Color is thinner/lighter, a little orange-er and dries a bit glossy in anything even remotely resembling a puddle.
Have added Nuln Oil to get the color back to the older color, but am not happy with the lighter amount of pigment and the glossy finish.
Anyone else?

I have noticed the gloss version but this new one is not a gloss bottle. It only glosses in puddles. None of my other Shades do this.

Did you try to shake it before applying? I know the old ones once settle over time, the top layer seems to be slightly glossy(perfect for guns) and the bottom layers to be matte with gunk(perfect for tank tracks).

Of course, always shake them. This is two brand new bottles with no residue on the bottom.

i'd guess they may have had a batch where they put the gloss version in a normal bottle,
email GW and they'll probably replace it (they might get you to send the duff stuff back post free, they did for me when they had a duff batch of that crackle base paint that I can't rememeber the name of)

I’ve had a couple of metals recently that quickly separate and I heard about a batch of Devlan Mud years back that had mold growing it.
I bought a bottle of Nuln Oil Gloss to try it on hydraulics and cables but it’s an uneven streaky mess. I didn’t like it at all.

This. Dump GW's washes, the AP ones have so much better color and consistency.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I recently got some Agrax after seeing it used in so many of Duncan's GW vids. I like it enough to use time where I previously used Sepia, but it is pretty thin. I need multiple coats to get the affect I want.
But it is a good affect, so I'm not gonna complain

I just bought a pot of Agrax Earthshade, and it is noticeably thinner than the pot I bought last year. Not sure if it's just a matter of aging or a change in the formula though.

Windsor and Newton's Peat Brown Ink is a fantastic tool for anyone wanting to shade recesses, be sparing, be patient, varnish after and it's great.
Added bonus, because it's water based over an acrylic paintjob, if you ever need to "correct" your work, you can lift or gradually with gentle passes of a wet brush.
