Never a shortage of stuff to look at, gobert. Cool game pics. The DG are shaping up nicely. The Eldar were a surprise. I thought at first you were diving into a new army, not a commission. Keep it up!

I’ve gotta be honest, painting those hulls the thought did cross my mind to do an Armoured Eldar Warhost… but I’ve still got Death Guard to spend money on… and several other in progress/not yet started armies!

Speaking of Death Guard spending, I won a Plague Marine Champion on eBay this morning. Sassy Nurgling incoming! Elsewhere I’m tempted by a couple of Biologus Putrifiers for those sweet Lethal Hits 5+. But obviously I want to convert them, so I’m eyeing up some Chosen of Mortarion as I’d quite like a third plaguecaster and may as well have another Blightbringer too. And while I’m buying retail perhaps a Playue Surgeon and Foul Blightspawn to have all of the characters… except I don’t have a Mortarion, so maybe I should get one of those… sh!t that escalated quickly! Maybe when I finish this batch I’ll treat myself?

Back to actual hobby stuff, I’ve not been massively productive this week. Though I seem to have completely abandoned my base layers then do the Poxwalkers and will probably finish them before moving on. The special weapons have had all of their flesh bits done, as have the Blighhaulers and the Heavy Plague Weapons.

The baby blue on the special weapons worked out ok, though the yellow is a bit pale for a shade colour. The purple on the haulers looks pretty decent too. I got confused between Heavy Weapons and Heavy Plague Weapons from my previous post. So the HPWs are pale green and the HW will be yellow, the Blight Launcher though didn’t really have any fleshy bits so his tongue will do that job. I needed to add a fair bit of white to most of the colours to make it work, but it’s turning out reasonably well so far. With any luck I’ll get the fleshy bits finished tomorrow, but that Lord of Virulence’s skirt will be tricky!

Thanks for looking!

It’s been a while dakka. I’ve started about 3 posts and for various reasons not gotten round to finishing them. Hopefully 4th times a charm! I’ve made steady progress with the Death Guard, going well beyond the bare minimum battle ready steps. I may as well finish them now… all of the fleshy bits have been done and I’m not convinced by the multicoloured version of the scheme. I might switch back to match the kill team, but will get them done first. Here’s a few older pics to show each of them done, first up the special weapons in yellow-green-blue

These actually look pretty decent, but the yellow wasn’t a great first colour
Next is the blighthaulers green-blue-purple

This one looked great at the green-blue mix stage, but the purple looks odd and lost my highlighting mojo
Next is the heavy weapons red-orange-yellow

The colour is kinda cool, but it doesn’t work well on the minis. Perhaps because it’s similar to the copper?
Heavy Plague Weapons orange yellow green

Works reasonably well, would’ve been better had I started with fire dragon bright instead of trollslayer orange. Again, it looks cool, but doesn’t work with the minis unfortunately.
And here’s the regular loadout guys and the nurglings in blue-purple-pink

These look much better and the colours seem to work for me.

I haven’t stopped there as I managed to get all of the rust and corrosion done.

I think that the orange rust might’ve been a bit too thick on some of the minis, certainly the plasma dude has some very large bright orange rusty bits.

I have also made a start on their green glows,

I should probably sort out a few other bits like skulls and stuff first before I do the brighter bits.

I think the crusade starts in a couple of weeks, so I should be able to get these guys done. Doing 10 poxwalkers to finish my list might be a stretch but my Blackstone Fortress Poxwalkers and one of the Ppague Marines will help get to 1000 pts and give me full wysiwyg painted army.

Thanks for looking

That's a lot of work, man. I think your original scheme works best, but that may just be familiarity. Keep up the good work. Onward to 1,000 points!

Yeah, it’s tough to tell, I’ll leave them as they are for a while and see if I want to make the change. The Cruaade starts in a little over a week… not sure I’ll get 10 Poxwalkers painted after this lot… we’ll see. Maybe a 1 weekend challenge will do the trick?

muette wrote:Plenty of progress here! And results are paying out, I like the contrast of the green accents on the black armour.

Cheers muette, the black and green do give a good contrast. I wasn’t too sure about the goop on the modified blight hauler, but I think it looks pretty good

Kept up some steady progress. Got the first highlight on the green and then switched to bone, with the first layer done on all of them except the Terminators.

They’re starting to really come together now, though painting the biologus putrifier I realised I still have lots of bottles to paint. I think they’ll have to be a slower time project, maybe a fresh bottle for each battle or mini his unit kills? Maybe the colour could match the enemy army!?

Speaking of games, I had my latest league game on Sunday against Ad Mech. I lost, but had good fun nonetheless. I didn’t get many photos but here’s one from the end of Chaplain Germanus’ heroic last stand, he whittled down a full squad of robot thingies after he lost his accompanying squad of Vanguard Vets.

And continuing my recent trend, I wrote most of that a week ago, so here’s the very nearly finished Plague Marines.

I’d forgotten how fun these bases are to paint, yellow speed paint all over (got a few bonus tones thanks to another 100% dry dark yellow) then slap on some thick spots of orange speed paint (watch it diffuse) and finish off with a few spots of heavily thinned turquoise mixed with incubi darkness.

Will do a couple more bits on them tonight before I switch focus to some Poxwalkers to finish off the crusade opening list.

Thanks for looking!

Just had a good old wander through the last five or so pages back to the 2024 wrap up. You've built up a seriously impressive catalogue here mate!

Everything is looking good - the Void Panthers are resplendent, especially the (now jump) Chaplain and the Librarian.

The new DG are likewise great - personally I'm a big fan of the tweaked colour schemes for individual units. The main colours are a large enough part of the models to maintain cohesion while the themed extras bring a bit of life to the army when you see them all together. Their bases are particularly well done (and gruesome, they remind me nearly exactly of when the kids all had school sores at the same time...)

But my favourite work has to be the terrain. So often those big pieces get a quick wash and a drybrush and that's always serviceable but it's always heartwarming to see a board that has had time and love put into it. Plus it makes your action shots and general photos of the gang look 10x better.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks matey, those pink nurglings really do finish off the minis, I need MOAR NURGLINGS!

Cheer mcmatilla, it was quite a batch, but Death Guard work can be sloppy and still look pretty good imho. There’s going to be another batch shortly as well so I can get up to 1500pts, ideally by the 26th.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up! It’s been quite a fruitful year so far with plenty more in the pipeline. I reckon you’re right on the terrain making the pics better. Theres a couple of other terrain projects in the background; I’ve finished building the Sector Imperialis sets that I bought on made to order and I’m aiming to get a Killzone Bheta-Decima set printed and painted for September. It might be a Summer in the garden project when the kids finish school.

Since my last post I’ve gotten the Black Death Crusade army ready for battle. They’re still quite rough around the edges and need a few more things to be properly finished, but good enough for the early rounds. Here they all are alongside the Poxwalkers and Kill Team I did a while ago

All that’s missing from the list is another 10 poxwalkers that I also made a good start on

I’m loving how different these are looking, even the ones with duplicate bodies appear sufficiently different with their new heads and arms.

I’ve taken some decent pics of each unit separately and will upload them over the rest of the week if and when I get time

Thanks for looking

Thanks Ezki, though I was thinking that the name was a bit naff but there really is a joy in a painted Army.

Before I get to finished pics of the individual units, I actually finished the Poxwalkers already! Super quick paint job with mostly speed paints and technical paints, but they look good enough altogether.

And here they are with the first batch who need their bases changing to match the new style, but they’re close enough for deployment

That’s 1000 points of Death Guard completed. I’ve now set myself the challenge of gettting another 500 points ready by the 26th. It should be doable as it’ll just be 3 bases (so my BSF guys can join in) 3 Plague Marines (to max out the squads to 10), a Plagueburst Crawler and Typhus (who sadly can’t join the Crusade just yet). Will get started on that lot next

Thanks man, still can’t believe I’ve gotten an army painted up so quickly! Crusade hasn’t started yet, I think my first game is likely to be on the 19th. I’ve got Ad Mech as my first opponent so I look forward to dealing out a few viruses.

Here’s the first unit, let’s start with the Myphitic Blighthaulers; Belchmaw and Sludgehowler.

Belchmaw is the one with green slime oozing down its front and Sludgehowler the other one (thanks to ChatGPT for all the names)

These Blighthaulers are pretty cool little vehicles. Even though I bought these fully built I think the conversions to make them unique have worked pretty well. The goo on Belchmaw is just sprue goo I let run, but it seems to have been effective. The Deathshroud shoulder pad over the eye turned out great. I’ve got another one recently that had lost most of its spikes so I leant in to that. I’d like to work a Nurgling in to it, but not sure any of the ones that I’ve got work hanging on.

Thanks for looking

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some more pics while I wait for the train. This time a squad of Plague Marines

Frustratingly I miscalculated when I built these. I had aimed to have 2 squads of 7 Marines but frustratingly I did one too many Special Weapons so need to sub in a BSF Plague Marine to one of the squads. I’ve magnetised his base options so that shouldn’t be too much of a of a problem

I think their cloaks have turned out well, nothing special but some cross hatched highlights seem to have worked for me. Colours were Zandri dust washed with Ratling Grime, Zandri dust highlight, then rakarth flesh finished off with pallid wych flesh

No conversions in this batch, I think the Plasma chap is from the Dark Imperium box but nothing special besides that. I think the orange rust layer was a bit too heavy on some of these, it looks better when it’s more subtle, but not bad enough to warrant a repaint

Thanks for looking

Thanks dude, the ooze is pretty effective, I’ll need to incorporate that in other conversions I think

Next is the Noxious Blightbringer, probably the coolest character thanks to his big bell, but sadly seems a bit lacklustre in game. Who knows maybe the extra 1” movement will make a big difference to these slow pokes!!

He also has a great Nurgling so he has that going for himself. I fancy getting some more just for the cool Bells. I’d probably stick them on different bodies for a bit of variety though.

Carrying on the pics, here’s the Biologist Putrifier. Such a cool mini and a really useful model in game, giving critical on a 5+ which with the Lethal Hits that most Plague Marine weapons have. Chucking a Plaguecaster in adds Sustained Hits should make them pretty handy

Now this guy probably has the most work to be completely finished as I’ve not even begun to do anything with his flasks and vials.

Since he’s so useful in game I think I’ll be maxing out how many I can take and plan to get a couple more to convert regular plague marines to Lethal Hits boosters

Yeah, he’s a nasty boi alright

Here’s another set of pics, this time of the Tallyman Scribbus Wretch

His runes turned out pretty cool with a nice glow to them. After taking the pics I realised he had no writing on his papers, so that is now fixed but the ink in his plague bearer skull doesn’t match at the moment.

His Nurgling is pretty cute, but I didn’t get a pic that better shows him off. Maybe I’ll remember if I do any more finishing touches to him. As for the mini, he’s pretty cool, I especially like his vox box holder on his backpack, the copper turned out well.

Penultimate pics of this group are the Deathshroud led by Verrux the Weeping

I see now that if forgot to highlight Verruxs belly teeth and I think their clouds could do with some darker shades of green towards their tips. I also skipped out on their flies so will need to come back to that, perhaps when I max out the squad with another 3.

I think Verrux’s Nurgling came from the Great Unclean One box and he’s such a cool one he needed to be on someone important. It looks like I missed his teeth so his lovely grin will get even lovelier soon!

Thanks mate, they stack up pretty well so far, even if I need to make some improvements.

Let’s finish up this batch with the Warlord for the crusade (subbed in as I can’t use Typhus ); Carrion-Lord Dregnul who is a Lord of Virulence.

With his base painted I think his red-orange-yellow bits work pretty well with the scheme, so much so that I’m torn what to do on repainting or not. Either way, I missed a few of the green goopy bits so they’ll need doing at some point. I think it’s hard to find all of the bits when a batch contains so much variety.

So that’s phase 1 complete. Phase 2 is already on my desk, but not yet started. There’s a few more Plague Marines Typhus and a Plagueburst Crawler that should round me out to 1500

Thanks for looking !

Thanks mate, I think the multi coloured fleshy bits might be growing on me, particularly on the ones with green in them like the Blighthaulers. Maybe it’ll stay!?
ShadowsAndDust wrote:Your Death Guard are looking suitably disgusting. Papa Nurgle would be proud.

Thanks ShadowsAndDust I do aim to please Papa

In all my excitement with the Death Guard I forgot to post the finished pics of my void Panthers’ Rhino/Razorback, so here’s a few bonus pics. First in the stock configuration with heavy bolters;

I really should’ve added something else in the purple band, maybe on the next vehicle.

I also painted some roof hatches so it can run as a rhino if i want

But it will mainly run as a Razorback with twin linked Lascannons

I’ve got another Rhino and a Predator to do, but the Panthers will be taking a backseat whilst I’ve got the Plague Marines bug… speaking of which I’ve made a good start on the Plagueburst Crawler

My first league game is delayed now until Sunday so hopefully I can get it in a decent state for then

Rhino/razorback is beautiful work mate, classic and clean. The new transports can't stand up to the design of the firstborn ones IMO!

Agree that the cloaks on the plague marines turned out great - looking like suitably worn linen for your walking petri dishes.

I love the use of green on the Death Guard - whether for plasma, rune, pus or guts - they just work really nicely together.

Glad to hear they'll see the table soon - that's the good stuff!
