Did these get discontinued? I went to FW's website and could not find them. Went to GW and they weren't there either. Are they strictly recast only now?

Yep, they got binned along with a whole load of FW stuff.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

Well gak... are their troops just Cadian troops with Elysian upgrades? Are there still rules for them in the FW Index? Any other Elysian players have a minute to help me out if I'm just trying to get started with them?

Not sure what you mean about Cadian troops with Elysian upgrades. As far as rules, the rules for Elysians are in the FW Index. I don't play Elysians but one of the members of my group does, so I'm pretty familiar with them. What do you want to know?

No, they were 100% their own unique resin sculpts. Not Cadian at all.

You're free to use the Elysian rules with whatever models you have handy. However outside of being able to lob 10 krak grenades due to FW's incompetent rules writing, you're better off running Scions, especially since they have stuff in the new Vigilus book.

Don't they have unique units, like the two man sniper team?

Yes, and you're free to use whatever models you want to represent them. Their unique units are still ( imho) not worth using.

Just want to note that the Elysians were discontinued for a good reason. The idea was cool, but the kits were an absolute nightmare to work with. Poor fit, really weird poses, and to use any of the special weapons you had to carefully cut out a bit of the handle and splice in the bit of handle attached to the hand. You're not missing much.

Their model range are cool and being FW=expert modeler required; I wish I got a squad of lascutter team before they got the pre axe before the actual axe. Their mobile mortar are much cooler than the regular ones from the other IG range. Then there are the vehicles, totally awesome but worthless on the field. My only real gripe would be their limited head options, there is only a handful all together.

The Elysians go way beyond that. My DKoK are easy, IMO as easy as plastic infantry as long as you're careful with them. The kits are just 2-3 parts, bodies and arms, and you just attach whichever arms you want and that's all there is to it. Maybe if you're feeling especially ambitious you glue the backpack on, or some pouches/grenades on the belt. There's certainly no conversion required beyond mixing bodies and arms from different kits and gluing them together just like the standard options. Contrast that with the Elysians, where you have body + legs + head + arms and you have to do cutting and splicing to get any of it to fit. Want to assemble that stock plasma gunner exactly the way it's shown on the package? You have to cut out a section of the handle on the gun, making sure you don't cut too much out and leave gaps, and splice in the bit of handle on the arm piece. And you have to do it with a contact area that is 1mm square at most, so good luck getting that lined up and glued with any durability.
In short: the Elysian kits. There's a reason I gave up on that project.

Ha, guess you’re not a expert modeler! Jest aside, all my DKOK are recast and I tack glue on the backpacks after painting it separately. Whereas all my Elysian infantry are genuine FW, vehicles are recasts, the hard part was the running legs, I had to pin it very carefully at a angle to the base. I also wish I had gotten more of the FW tallarn before the axe.

Isn't this how most kits used to come? I certainly remember my fair share of Space Marines like this.
