Hi all, I’d like some help in researching the rites and rituals of chapter master creations in space marine chapter. As ive been told the White Scars have a Librarian take applicants to a cave and one will come out and be named the chapter master of a new chapter, with the other never seen again.
Can you post what information you guys have for different chapter please as I’m finding no information on the Wiki pages
Or if you could point me to the right place to find this kind of information please
Many thanks

Lugft Huron was appointed as chapter master of the Astral Claws after the death of Rovik Blake by, "the popular acclamation of his peers."
(Not that it turned out well in the end!)

It really varies from chapter to chapter. Even Codex Compliant Chapters have their own rituals and lore. I know off the top of my head Space Wolves basically have the Wolf Guard meet whenever the previous wolf lord wolfishly wolfs to the wolfside and decide who the next Lord should be, whether it's by popular vote or trials of strength. The Celestial Lions basically had High Marshal Helbrecht point to the last remaining Sergeant and said "Look at me, you're the Chapter Master now" and gave him some bling. Granted, this was after being wiped out to about 20-odd survivors.

When a Guardsman proves Himself sufficiently in battle He is granted authority over a chapter of space marines. This formal granting is mostly a matter of paperwork, however, as the chapter will almost certainly bowed in submission before such a superior warrior and sworn oaths of loyalty and service.

Dark Angels basically let the Watchers In The Dark decide, which is a bit concerning seeing as they aren't even human and no one really knows what their agenda is!

Blood angels have completely forgotten how to pick a new chapter master and no one can find the right scrolls after so long.

It's appropriate for a chapter that lost half its members to chaos and then commits further heresy and treason to suppress knowledge of that betrayal.

It's appropriate for them to make no sense whatsoever you mean?
For what it's worth, the Dark Angels true motives are likely extremely anti-chaos. Watchers are anathema to Chaos in the lore, similar to a blank.

To be manipulated by xenos overlords and willingly serve as their pawns. After all, once you're as deep in treason and heresy as the DA are what's a little submission to xenos abominations?

I don't think that's such a big deal anymore. Imperium's de facto ruler is a zombie resurrected by a xenos necromancer.

The watchers in the darkness were actually mimi-me versions of Lion el'johnson. Part of some early experiments in primarch cloning.

They are actually original 30K Dark Angels. Marines were that size before ten thousand years of scale creep.

More evidence that space marines can't be trusted and should be brought under the authority of the Imperial Guard. The guardsmen of Krieg have shown far less interest in treason and heresy, perhaps some time in the trenches of a siege war would prove educational for the Ultrasmurfs.

Or they are the original epic scale marines.
