So I decided that it would be kind of cool to try and make my Renegades and Heretics into a partially undead fighting force. For example, I was going to splice some skeletons and zombie bits from AoS into a group of Cadians. Some would still have helmets or the like but someone's would have rotting legs and skeleton hands. Problem is that is as far as I thought.
Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions they would like to contribute that might work for something like this?

I think Nurgley bits will take you far. Poxwalkers and Plaguebearers should have a bunch of rotting limbs and details you could easily combine with Cadians.

A good idea, but I'm just trying to stay away from making it look to much like death guard and I am trying to keep it in line with the Slaanesh covenant my commander is going to take

Personally I don't think slaanesh and undead mix. Slaanesh is all about earthly vice and pleasure, which the undead probably wouldn't be interested in. Nurgle is really the best god for undead.

I think that you should change allegiance to Nurgle if thinking about lost and damned with zombies and skeletons What you're writing about looks like perfect conversion for poxwalkers

For Slaanesh some of the dark eldar/ dark elves/ daughters of khaine/ idoneth ranges have some plastic kits which have sharp edges and a graceful yet cruel look to them.
Also the irony of using elves/elder to make slaahesh models is gorgeous after he/she has basically eaten both races in their respective universes.

I know it makes more sense for it to be nurgle associated, but his covenant only grants a 6+ invulnerable save against attacks with strength 4 or less. Slaanesh's covenant lets me take the better of 2 dice when advancing and the better of 3 dice when charging. I need to get them up into melee before they get blasted apart

I think an army of zombified undead could be the aftermath of a serious slaaneshi meth-sesh. All their nerve endings have burned out and they're left as near-lifeless husks as a consequence of their decadence.
As for parts, maybe consider mantic zombies? I bought 40 in a single kit once (which proved too much for me and I gave half of it away to a friend) but they might help flesh out your army of renegades.

Anvil industry sells Zombies, and IG regiment sized modells and parts, resin but works.
I'd also suggested Zombies from whfb,
Tbf, as a fellow r&h player, the best insurance to get into melee is the 50man Mutant blob and their caregiver enforcer

Disgustingly Resilient for most Death Guard is 5+ no matter what attack S And now since cultist went to 5p/model its worth considering switching from cultists to poxwalkers And with noxious blightbringer your poxies have same skill for choosing higher dice when advancing

It's worth looking on eBay for the revenants from Sedition Wars as well, as they are great sci fi zombies, and cheap now that all interest in the game has gone.

Nurgle's not the only one to make ready use of the civilian population. They don't have to be 'zombies' per se.
A spiritual corruption spread through blood that turns infectees into murderous berserkers, a la 28 Days Later? Khorne zombies.
Airborne drugs that send an unwitting populace into a rapturous trance, vulnerable to suggestion and blissfully unaware as they are used for cannon fodder? Slaanesh zombies.
A potent spell that seizes control of victims's limbs outright, manipulating them like puppets on strings? Tzeentch zombies.
If you really want to avoid the Nurgle aesthetic you could forgo skeletal bits in favor of blank stares, glowing eyes, and throwing in the appropriate pink and purple trim, but it's not like any of the four gods are going to be particularly concerned about driving their pawns until they fall apart.
I don't see any issue with this idea and if OP doesn't want to play Death Guard they shouldn't need to.

At the end of the day, if you're gaming it's your models, so do as you wish, but for me IP and modelling wise undead doesn't fit with slaanesh at all. Maybe shoot for some different conversions, or look into the wrath and rapture box. That has some beautiful slaanesh models in it.

This isn't DG though, this is Forgeworld Renegades Automatically Appended Next Post: On reflecting, I can see the point of many of the suggestions above and decided to change the army's allegiance to Nurgle. I had to change the tactics slightly but it's still the same army. Thanks for that guys!
On that note, any suggestions for making it look more Nurgle-y?

Poxwalkers are a good place to start for mutant rabble - you could pick up the Dark Imperium lot on eBay cheap as chips. If you're looking for more variety there's the easy build poxwalkers, and the nurgle blood bowl team which has some interesting models in - including pestigors, but you'd need to do some converting and give them all weapons.
Maybe also look into Rogue Trader: Kill Team for extra nurgly figures such as the nightmare hulks which could very easily fit the bill as plague ogryns.
Anvil Industry does a solid range of tox troopers which would serve well as renegade militia or cultists. And then there's the chaos forces in Blackstone Fortress - while not overtly nurgly, you could convert some nurgle-dedicated renegade guard, a couple of sorcerer's and a few other odds and ends.
Alternatively, you could look into the mining suits worn by the genestealer cult neophytes - they might also be useful as elite nurgle soldiers - and you could pick up the Overkill ones on eBay again for not all that much. A few head swaps and you're good to go.

So, I'm wholeheatedly in agreement with those saying that Nurgle does not have a monopoly on the undead and wholeheartedly in favour of your devotion to She Who Thirsts. Eyo vlast velika.
I don't imagine it would be overly difficult to make hand-swaps with Skeleton models for pistols and melee weapons, but I don't see an easy way to do it for las/autoguns. Though, from the sounds of it, that doesn't seem to be an issue for you.
What I would do is I would build most of the mini from Cadian parts, swapping out arms and heads for bones/skulls where possible. The empty helmets on Cadian sprues fit onto the bald Damonette heads without too much issue, so I'd wager they'll fit onto Skeleton heads, too, which will help tie the two themes together.
Maybe also cut a few legs off at the knee and slap some bones and GS rags on there to hide the joins..

For Slaaneshi zombies these could be the victims of surgery to remove organs to be rendered into Astartes grade narcotics, or victims of a pleasure cult whose emotions and life force have been drained by sorcerous forces.

Tbf a similar practic with drug use supposedly is parcticed on Haiti to my knowledge.
Frankly noise marines are just one step above beeing Zombies thanks to their surgery, now imagine a Slaanesh cult that practices similarly.
It wouldn't be a stretch for a cult to just create willing drugslaves that feel nothing anymore and abuse them as wannabee plague zombies, it also has the benefit that you can use it on say drinkwater supplies of hives.

Then that was 5 seconds well spent
During the Siege of Terra the Emperor's Children went off to round up civilians to render into narcotics, ignoring the Loyalists. I figured after 10,000 years some might still have that fixation. The life force draining is just modified vampire mythology.
**edit**
I also like the idea of the potential juxtaposition between the army where you could have overly decorated hedonists in HQ and Elite roles, with a shambling rag tag mob of Troops.

At this point I'm pretty sure it's going to be Nurgle aligned, but I plan to do the crap out of that. Overly ornate elites mixed with reanimated corpses. It will be glorious. The elites disciples are going to be made using the militia conversion kits. For the marauders I am going to use CSM armor to reflect how they're rich and just there to get paid.
