Looking for some input on ideas for doing red-styled plasma gun coils. I’m about to start painting my AdMech army (lots of gun coils to experiment with), and want to try a scheme without green or blue for the guns.
My thoughts are a base coat of Mephiston Red, wash of Nuln Oil, layer of Wild Rider and then maybe Troll Slayer/A lighter orange. Maybe an edge highlight of White Scar?
Any ideas on this? Should I replace the Nuln Oil with a more red wash like Reikland Fleshshade or maybe Carroburg Crimson? I want a more red than pink look to the weapons.

I paint red plasma coils the same way I paint blue ones, just with dark red, red and orange with a red ink instead of dark blue, blue and electric blue with a blue ink. Both highlighted white.

Yeah, this. Mephiston Red, then the red wash, Mephiston Red again, Wild Rider then a slight highlight of Troll Slayer Orange.

My version is this that I used to paint my friend's chaos troops ready for a tournament quickly.
I based the coils in Rakarth Flesh (this was because he used a black primer so it would help brighten the next colour, you can skip this part if you primed in ehite/grey.) I then painted the coils in white (your choice of a white). Then, I used GW red glaze, starting on the edges closest to the weapon casing and dragging along. Lastly, I drybrush white to give the white hit coil effect.

Awesome thanks for the advice!
For the red wash is Reikland or Carroburg better in your opinion? Or maybe there’s another red wash that I don’t know about.

The ink that I use is closer to Carroburg. If you want a deep red look I would go with that.

For my Death Guard I use - khorne red, wash with carroburg, khorne red drybrush, wildrider red drybrush, fire dragon bright drybrush and finish with white scar gentle drybrush on edges of coils. Instead of drybrush you can highlight each coil one by one.

That looks really good, definitely more of the effect I want. I’ve seen some red plasma guns that seem to just come off more pink.
