Let's make a hypothetical situation... neither money nor time are an issue, which new mono army would you buy and paint (no soup)? It doesn't have to be for competition... could just be a fluffy army you've been wanting to build (you'll see some that appear to be doubled up on the list, but they are only there if they have a specific set of armor for all of their models for example)
I"m curious which you all would pick.

I have DeathWatch and Orks, but I think if I were to summon a new army into life i'd go with Thousand sons. Then I'd have an army from each major faction, a solid subfaction that can leverage demons while also being from a model line that most players aren't used to encourntering.
Plus you gotta love the cool hats

I voted Death Guard because I like the models, and I really like the old legion paint scheme on them. I already have a kill team painted up and they look fantastic.
I also feel like there's a lot of untapped modelling potential with the Tau suits. I had my wife get me a Ghostkeel for xmas so I'm going to have a go at that. If I like it, it may turn in to a list of The Eight + some other random suits and a minimum battalion.
My current project is Deathwatch and I'm getting sick of black space marines, lol.

Voted orcs because they would be awesome but I don't have the time to paint 180ish boys.
Second on my list was Tsons. I think that army is beautiful when some of the Egyptian bits are added but I think it's beyond my skill level to paint/convert.
Third would have to be harlies. They look so cool when done right but again, so much free-hand/stencil work that is just out of my skill set.

From the list, I'd say Orks. Surprisingly large range, and top shelf third party support.
Really, I'd pick Slaanesh mixed.

See it would be easier to just ask my what army I wouldn't want to try out and build Cause it would probably be orks (yeah I love their ramshackle vehicles and mechs but I've never really wanted and ork army).
Otherwise I could justify most armies to myself if time and money were non-issues.
Still I'd probably go with either Ad-Mech or Sisters of Battle. Gives me an Imperial force to play with and I can ally in other stuff - I'll vote Ad-mech for now because Sisters is pending on what they end up looking like in the revamp!

If money was no object I would collect DKoK. I'm not sure if that means I should have voted Imperial Guard? I already have an IG army, I just think the DKoK models are cooler looking than the Cadians I've got.

Voted for Orks, SoB would be my second. Even considered buying them sometimes, but then I remembered the 70€ for one squad...
Orks are more a Probleme of time, really. I have about 110 Orks from Lotr already and about 60 Goblins, so I wouldn't mind collecting them for 40K, too. But another horde army is too much.

Death Korp of Krieg/Elysians - in the past, although I love the Guard & I love those models, I could never quite justify spending that much on IG. Still can't really. And I've always figured FW would drop them before I talked myself into doing so. Oh, look, that's exactly what happened with the Elysians.
But if time/$ isn't a factor.....

Probably Ad Mech, on a wild gamble that they'll release necron cultist techpriests in the future. I'll still run them solo, but I'll try to make them necron themed.

GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

Orks. They would take the most of both, so that pulls a lot of work off my plate.
However, I already own Space Marine, IG, Dark Eldar, Eldar, and Ynnari armies, and I've already played Tau and GK in the past.

This is kind of a problem question because I have so many of the boxes checked, for pretty much everything that I already like:
* an excess of OOP metal Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Stormtroopers & =Inquisition= plus Hive Gangers & Spyrers
* an excess of Craftworld Eldar, enough Harlequins, and smattering of Dark Eldar
* plenty enough Space Marines that I've variously played as DA, BA, and more
* adequate numbers of Chaos Marines
I wouldn't want to repeat any of the above, so it'd have to be an army that I think looks cool OOTB and would be interesting to simply have. I've never really "gotten" Orks, and Tau are overlap for my Eldars & Guard. Same with AdMech. And Custodes and GKs other MEQs being more Marines.
Maybe Tyranids? Or Chaos Daemons? Are all-Kroot even possible? I could see all-Kroot if that were a thing.

A mix of Daemons, CSM, and AdMech; Heretek Ordo Reductor & such in fealty to Malal.

Would take a fair doo to make the demons for it, and would be primarily based off dragon models.

Squats. I would procure each and every model of Squats and all the old Land Raiders since they were Squat Land Raiders and Squat Rhinos back in the day.
Speaking of which....Did the Squats always have Land Raiders and Rhinos since they kept most of their tech.
Did they get it from the Emporer?
Did the Marines get if from the Squats?
thanks

‘Nids.
They make a nice foil to my ultras, and play completely different from the armies I have.
Plus I love their look.
But I have neither the time or cash for a horde army. And edition flux has always been rough on the bugs. Sure, they can normally make a decent build, but it is often spamming some niche unit.

Orks. My first GW love was Orcs and Goblins from Warhammer. I'd love to play Orks in 40k, but I absolutely hate... and I don't use that word lightly... painting them.
I love building, converting, playing as, losing with Orks. But painting them? So many dinky-do gubbinz! And it's part of the look and I get that many people love it... but I genuinely hate having to paint and futz about with all the little details on 6 (?) point models. Just drives me around the bend.
So with unlimited money, I'd pay someone else to paint an Ork army that I build and convert.

If money and time weren't a consideration I'd pick up Skorne and Retribution. And Minions. And also Cygnar, Khador, Legion, and Rhulic Mercs. And then try to convince my local group to switch to a game that doesn't have appallingly poor interfaction balance.
