Are there any mentions of human military formations utilising psykers en masse to fight the enemy? I know there are Grey Knights, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking more for a Guard Psychic regiment or something like that...

Also, how do you imagine a unit like this works?

It doesnt.

As soon as human Psykers are discovered by the Inquisition they're shipped off on the black ships to either be fed to Big E, trained to be one of several types of sanctioned Psykers, yoinked for service in the Inquisition, recruited for the Grey Knights, or summarily executed as a threat to the Imperium.

In the olden days you have the tousand sons. I belive all of then where psykers. Suffered a lot for mutations and horrible deaths though. Read the tousand sons book.

The grey knights are what you are looking for.

Eldars have warlock counsils.

Chaos cultists have rogue psykers, never works out to well in the end.

Iquisitors might gather some psykers, but not a lot.

IG hase some bands of psykers, do not remember the unit entry. But they are not many.

Blood ravens have a lot of psykers, more then usual.

While not the same, there is a unit of SM that all gets possessed and then clensed as part of their recruitment prosses.

Tyranids have a lot of psykers

As for how a unit like that would work. In the rules there are several unit of psykers, so you can just look at their rules.

From a fluff perspective I doubt it would work very well at all. If they are unregulated they would be shot. If they are regulated chances are they would not form in the first place. If by some apolagetic they did form chances are high something terrible is going to happen. Psykick powers are not like the ghost busters handing you a photon pack and switching it on. It is a bad idea. A group of them? Good luck.

Yes, yes, but I was thinking more of an army made of trained and sanctioned Wyrdvane psykers, led by Primaris psykers and guarded by plenty of Commissars, if I compare it to the tabletop.

If this somehow happened, how viable it could be? Sure, accidents will happen, but I think it could be devastating against less psychically active foes.

I have a hard time seing that happening. SM do not fall under the controll of IG. If you want to keep the psykers alive you should keep them away from Comnissars who's main form of mainting controll is shooting people until they respect the chain of command.

If a lot of demons are not summoned you could end up with some nice chaos spawns.

The Inquisition would never allow it to happen, and would almost certainly put a bolt round through the forehead of the person who suggested such a thing.

Not as an infantry formation perhaps, but a psi-titan of the Ordo Sinister contains a mass of psychic humans surgically implanted into a Warlord titan to make use of their combined talents.

'Accidents will happen' means losing an entire ship (with all those psykers) or potentially a world when the inevitable occurs.

The squad of Wyrdvane psykers was weird and rare enough. At some point someone is going to lose their head and it will probably cause a cascade effect.

If any human world tried this in the old days, the world almost certainly burned during Old Night. If any imperial world even thought about it, they'd be sanctioned and/or preemptively burned.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Didn’t the Geno Five Two regiment have essentially low level psykers as their commanders/commissioned officers? They were able to subtly enhance their troops abilities/leadership/moral?

They had 'cept advisors, but whilst more common than psykers in other formations, they were still far from a majority of officers.

If the foe isn't psychic, then the old brute force "send in ze next wave" of conventional dudes works.

However, if there's a good reason to field them, then deploying one (or more!) psykana divisions might be possible, rather than the normal practice of splitting them up into penny-packets. You're more likely to see them against highly psychic adversaries rather than less.

The old cadian battle group subformations gives you an idea of the composition of these platoon-equivalent units.

Spoiler:

Thank you. This is more or less I was thinking, yet in a bigger scale, although having platoon-sized units is sufficient. Now it's time to create a Psychic Legion. Well, at least in my fanlore. Tabletop interpretation might come later.

Yes, such things seem to have been tolerated during the Great Crusade but they have not been mentioned since.

The fact that they were last deployed alongside the Alpha Legion may have something to do with that.
