Codex not in front of me.. could wait 2 hours until I get home but bored at work
Drones taken as part of strike teams, suits, etc all act independently once the unit is deployed - meaning you can give up first blood/strike fairly easily if one goes down.
Drones taken as a fast attack choice, do they split up and act independently once deployed or must stay together because they are a squad?
cheers

No. They do not split up.
In fact all the drones you take with a unit split off as a unit of drones, not each drone as a separate unit. So as long as you don't just take 1 drone it's isn't too much of a problem!

Drones don't split up into individual single model units. If you take 2 drones with a unit they turn into a single 2 model unit.
The drones taken as a Fast Attack slot stay as a single unit.

I've been wondering this, but do they count towards Victory Points when they're merely upgrades to a unit? I get that they act as a separate unit once deployed, but they were technically never a unit to begin with.

They become a separate unit. Doesn't matter that they weren't during list creation, they are in the battle so they do count for First Blood.

So if you are playing and they might count for first blood, then don't take them, or take large units of them.

That's what I was thinking. Just swapping them out as a shield drone units and providing some decent bubble wrapping. Except for my Pathfinders Drones, they're needed.
