What characters are considered to be competitive in the ork army. By competitive I mean you bring them because you feel they are the best to help you win a game/tournament, not because you like how it looks or it fits your play style.

In my opinion the only two characters that are truly competitive are Warbosses and Weirdboyz with Big Mekz coming in close to being competitive, but only because they are cheap. It is interesting though that NONE of these characters has its own innate bubble buff. Warbosses buff allows advancing charging but I hardly use it anymore because most of my CC guys are deepstriking turn 2 at 8' distance. Big Mekz can have a bubble, if they purchase a meh at best 5++ KFF.

The bubble characters we have are Painboyz, Banner Nobz and than some specialist guys with situational buffs like Badrukka who gives Flashgitz a buff if they are nearby.

I would really like to see some Ork characters getting other kinds of bubble buffs, a +1BS bubble would be nuts so maybe give it Dakkax3 on 1s as well? i dont know. anyway, what say you dakkanauts?

Warbosses and Weirdboyz are certainly good. Big Meks are average and I wouldn't usually take one unless I need a fifth HQ, I'd really like the Painboy if they were HQ rather than Elite. Other than the Weirdboy and possibly the Warboss (due to no invulnerable save) I think our HQs and characters are a bit too expensive but not egregiously so. They all perform their particular role reasonably well in my limited experience but are a bit too squishy when push comes to shove, compared to how I'd like them at least.

I would also very much like to see Big Meks give out some sort of buff to a limited number of ranged weapons and vehicles beyond Meks Tools. Kustom Weapon/Vehicle upgrades of some sort perhaps akin to the old upgrades we used to be able to give to Flash Gitz pre-7th edition.

The warboss has superb buffs already. Reduced morale damage for all units nearby and the advance and charge aura (yes. Finally a simple aura that does not grind the game to a halt with rerolls). Combine him with some meganobs for better move and charge or with lone 30 blobs boyz so that its "kill all or they will recycle". Just because you rely on deep strike gimmicks does not make the characters bad for the rest of us.

Brutal, but kunning!

See I hardly use the Warboss buffs at all in my games. Most of my infantry is turn 2 charging from deep strike via tellyporta or da jump so the advance and charge part of the buff is useless. Also, because I am turn 2 charging without taking any casualties, I am usually not using the morale buff, especially since I usually have a blob of 30 giving morale to everyone nearby so I don't use his morale buff.

I want to specify, I am talking strictly about competitive builds, and so far I haven't seen anyone foot slogging a warboss and a lot of infantry up the board since the codex dropped. Boyz became too expensive for their complete lack of durability to do that and honestly, unless you are playing evil sunz, they are way to slow to even contemplate that.

So from a purely competitive standpoint I don't see any buffs from the warboss as being useful, I do consider him to be very competitive though, but only because he can take "Da Killa Klaw" and use a few strats to make him into a killing machine capable of downing an imperial knight in 1 turn.
