Necron Characters are super weak compared to a lot of other factions' characters, especially when it comes to getting sniped. Curious if the Living Metal ability would better serve them and say, the Monolith if it were a 5+++? What do you think?

Why do you say that they are weak to sniping? They fare on average better than SM or IG characters.

Yes, when compared to the weakest characters in the game I suppose Necrons don't have problems. SM characters can jump in transports and couldn't care less. Try again to convince me.

Eh. A 5+++ would step on the toes of Death Guard. Plus, it would be a super boring rule anyways. Living Metal as a rule is useless, but something generic or boring like a 5+++ would be just as bad tbh.

Living Metal should be how the Phylactery acts, and the Phylactery lets you add 1 to the roll or reroll the result.

I was more surprised when playing a doubles game with a Necron player as my partner that her Overlords only had A3.

That seems kind of weak for a heroic character, especially considering that my Canoness has 5 attacks that hit on 2's with re-rolls, and with a relic hit just as hard. In addition, my warlord trait gives me re-rolled charges and wounds, she had either-or.

He didn't seem fragile, though. To be fair, he's a lot tougher than my Canoness, but A3 still seems kind of low for a "heroic" type character.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I think they're more intended to be support characters. The problem atm is their supporting abilities are really lacking.

Thr 5+++ was getting way too prolific in 7th. I’d rather not see a return to that. What if necron characters could choose to phase out after a moral phase and return with full wounds at the end of your next movement phase?

I actually enjoy living metal rules wise! 1 free wound a turn doesn't seem that great but it is a nice bonus and has moved some of my vehicles up a damage bracket here and there.

Honestly I just think Necron characters need an extra attack. They have decent wounds and saves, they just really lack any use outside buffs.

Also Destroyer Lords should be WS2+ because the current hit rate is fething stupid as is.

Hitting on 3's rerolling 1's is supposed to be better than 2+, right?

So, a 5+++ is too bland for you guys, huh? I guess regaining a wound back a turn has been working out for you just fine. In my experience, once my characters are exposed to any kind damage they die. Deathguard having an army wide 5+++ is different than a rule only our characters and vehicles have, so not advocating for that 7th edition feel to Necrons again.

In My Lab

They’re not weak to snipers.

They’re just a little too pricey for what they do. And could use more attacks (and better WS on the DLord).

And exactly what good does a character embarked in a transport do if not for an amazing point sink?

SM HQ has to be out in the open at all times for it to make back (or, at least attempt to) the points spent on it.

Necron HQ has innate heal wound mechanism with base T5.

Not sure where the comparison is being drawn.

No, it isn't. The Destroyer Lord only lands more attacks because of the extra attack. Meanwhile everyone else has WS2+ and is usually rerolling that hit on top of that.

The destroyer lord is tougher than the majority of other characters though. Granted there in an edition where improved toughness is worth less than improved damage.

Death Guard and Necrons are two different types of durable though. The death guard are meant to soak up punishment. The necrons are meant to get back up after taking punishment. Isn’t there a way for characters to use reanimating protocols with a stratagem?

Cloakteks heal d6 wounds or d3 on top of the normal 1 would help and be more in theme I reckon. At d3 instead of the 1, it means a 1/3 of the time they are literally doing nothing.
Also maybe all characters can buy a phylactery too. These 2 changes wouldn't be OP, can't have any untoward side-affects that I can see and are just slight changes, not a different mechanic. Making all characters more durable.
Your idea would make Tesseract Arks and CCBs with Enduring Will and Nightmare shroud/Lightning Field, insanely durable for their points imo.
The Monolith you used as an example is it's own individual case, to make it viable, it should have a 5++, and the Gauss Flux Arcs should be the equivalent of 2 Gauss Cannons each, or keep them the same S/ap but make them 6 shots each. Then they would be threatening. What they lack at the moment is an invulnerable (or just give them QS) and decent shooting for their size.
