One of the spoiled assassins strategrms causes you to gain multiple CP. Does this work in matched play because the tacticle restraint rule doesn't have a named exception for it. So you would spend 1 CP to gain 1 CP.

I would imagine in this scenario it would count as an exception. While it isn't named as an exception, I would give GW a pass on this as it's a bit silly for them to write exceptions that didn't exist at the time, although I imagine someone will complain.

There already are mechanics, that allow you the gaining of more than 1 CP / round...

Harlequin - Player of Twilight is an example.
IIRC there is still a restriction to "once per battleround" to it.
So it should not be a problem to gain more than 1 CP from the assassin stratagem.

I don't think it needs a named exception, I would say it falls under the last line exception for stratagems that direct the number of command points given.

Also note this does not apply to command points that are gained or refunded as specifically instructed on stratagems (e.g. Feeder Tendrils, Agents of Vect, etc).

There are some abilities that grant back CP automatically in larger quantities than 1. These work through tactical restraint.

The assassin stratagem would be one of those.

Now, on the backside of this, is that once you regain those CP you can no longer regain any other CP for the battle round.

The assassin strat only lets you gain 1 CP (your spending 1 to gain 2) so its not any stronger than CP farming.

This is correct, was pointed out to me in another thread.

Balance wise, I can't see it being an issue. You won't be killing a character every turn, and even every other turn means you're probably burning CP on shooting twice anyway.

It still works for Assassins, as it's the stratagem that gives you multiple CP back, and not an ability. Stratagems get an exception in Tactical Restraint. This is why Agents of Vect, or the new GSC version, will actually refund you all the command points spend on a roll of 2-5, rather than just refunding you 1CP.

This is the right answer.

What I wrote might actually better in it's own thread.

This doesn't answer your question, but I first read the post title as "New assassins strat and testicle restraint" and I was trying to figure out how that kind of restraint made it into a Codex.
