There seems to be a trend that people upload images and give them 10/10 once done, at least the Best this week/month are rittled with pictures that even by generous standards don't live up to that rating.

How about default filtering shown pictures to only include those with 2+ votes, or disable uploader's own vote when ranking them?

That's a good idea! Lego looks to be planning an update to the gallery, anyway - I wonder if this is feasible / easy to do along with it?
