This is more of a request for a list so I can understand how daemon summoning works and it's uses because I've never seen an actual word bearers summoning list.

I was think something simple like:
HQ - Prince, sorcerer, dark apostle
Troops - x3 10 cultists for the cp
Heavy support - whatever
and the rest in reserves for summoning

I know you would have to have the points already paid for the summoning but the question is what do you bring as daemons? Greater daemons of each god and elites of each god seems like a good plan and then each time you summon you bring in the best tactical unit for the circumstance. Someone please make this and do a battle report so I could actually see summoning in 8th edition work

There was a player at lvo called Joshua death. His list can be found here: https://spikeybits.com/2019/02/final-top-ranking-unbeatable-40k-lists-from-lvo.html

I'd previously thought summoning pointless because of the restrictions and having to roll for it but he had about 700 points in reserves and that worked well for him.

As for a list I would take a mix of mele beasts like bloodthirsters, tough troops like plaguebearers, flame weapons for -1/2/3 to hit shenanigans and cheap units for tarpitting something scary like nurglings and slanesh fiends.

Why would you bring troops though? that was my first thought using various troops but since you don't get cp for it and you should just bring some cultists for that purpose, wouldn't it be better to just go for more powerful daemons?

Well holding objectives and tying up gunlines. Plus troops can put out much more anti infantry than big daemons. Horrors and bloodletters especially.

That's true, I suppose that it's a very dynamic army with a lot of potential, the more daemon models you have the more variations you can bring onto the table.

Yes. Can be fun if you have toons of daemons. But summoning restriction are still there... It can works fine versus some guys or with a bit of luck but I don't feel it.
• With all your army being reserve you wont have map control on T1.
• Get your characters sniped and you wont be able to summon anything.
• Can't move when summoning.
• ...

I have seen the news about the «summoning daemons» list at LVO but one guy doesnt means it s top tier. Nor he was lucky, nor he got easy matchup, nor he was an excelent tactician.

I think you can have up to half your army in reserve. The character's getting sniped is a great point, so you definitely want to keep your HQ's safe. It seems like the main strength is that deep tactical flexibility of being able to summon the perfect unit in any given circumstance.
