I'm curious on how these two abilities interact and in what sequence I should roll my dice. Would I:

1st, roll an extra die for each roll of six. 2nd, re-roll any ones.

You get to do both!

You roll your dice, re-roll any 1s, any 5's or 6's explode into new attacks, roll your new attacks, re-roll any 1's the new attacks generate. The extra attacks don't also explode, naturally.

I thought only 6's exploded into new attacks. Well, this is all good news for me!

Only 6's do! Unless you use the specific strategem that the previous poster was considering.
