Holla everyone.

In advance i apologise if my English is not on the pont.

A friend and I want to get in the 40k miniature painting and wargaming. With our financial situation we are going with the "Know no fear" + "Citadel Essentials Set" + some other colors.
So few questions if someone has the knowledge and time.

1. Can someoen tell me how balanced the sides are in the box set?

2. Can we get a feel for the game in that set and play for that matther?

3. He is geting the Space marines and besides the box set he got 3 Primaris Space Marine Intercessors he got for fun some while back. Should i get 3 Death Guard Plague Marines or 1-2 box of Death Guard Poxwalkers to even our the sides?

Thx for helping out a noobie

Hmm. I'm not really not the best person to try to answer, but it looks like no one else has been very forthcoming so I'll help as I can.

1. I don't know, but the truth is, it doesn't really matter because...

2. ...as you are both new, your focus should be on learning the core rules, and the literature inside the box is designed to do just that. Afterwards, when you want to start playing more advanced games, you'll want to pick up you respective codices - in your native language, of course . These will contain details of all of the units available for your armies, as well as the costs of each unit used to balance games. You may also want to pick up a copy of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, as it contains details and scenarios for matched play games, which are intended to be more balanced and even between each side, or better yet, pick up a copy of Dark Imperium, which will both expand your armies, and comes with a copy of the rule book as well.

3. After reading through your respective codices, you'll have a much better idea of how you'll want to expand your own army.

If you want to throw points around, and base them on the models you have, look for Battlescribe or a similar app or tool.
They can tell you what points things come to, and whether they are roughly 'legal' in other the game formats (battle forged).
There are also Power Levels to refer to (in the same apps and tools), and are on Games Workshop's Community website. Look for the Combat Roster:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/combat-roster/
Balance works better as the armies get bigger, and a few unit have trouble balancing well.

But, to know what your models really do, you will need those codices.

Thx for the info it really helps at his stage. So many information to process. The dark imperium box looks like the best way forward afther this.
One more question if that is ok.
In the "Know no fear" box the miniatures are painted Green/blue. Do you need to prime them or is it allready done in those colors?

You are 'expected' to undercoat, basecoat, wash, highlight, drybrush and detail every model.
Until then, use them anyway you want.
Undercoat is still required, as base coats go on better with a layer to work from.

As I understand it, they're not painted - just different coloured plastic.
