This all begins with this helmet by Puppetswar -I went to grab a better image but looks like it's discontinued. The ones I bought will have to do, coincidently it nicely supports the theme of a dying chapter.
This helmet is essentially the inspiration. I considered using it in a thousand sons army but there wasn't enough in chaos/tzeentch models to really pull me in...it could have been glorious though.
Loyalists it is. However, coming from 5th edition primaris marines, and the fluff don't sit right for me personally, but running tactical marines seems silly too considering GW will probably phase them out.
Luckily I love scouts, dreadnoughts, and terminators and really I was looking for an excuse anyway. This list is practically writing itself.
There are too many ravens chapters about - hawks phonetically sounds better than any other bird I could think of. Iron because at one point I was considering Iron hands chapter tactics but will now go for Raven guard. The colour scheme will feature lots of metallics and weathering the more ancient the armour, I'm thinking rusty dreads. Quite a few of them.
There we go, the IRON HAWKS, a long lost detachment from a previous era (the warp did it) rusting away confused by all the new [heretical] allies...lets assume the scouts are neccessary vangaurds of the truly valuable ancient dreadnoughts and terminator veterans. Fluff isnt my strongest point but it helps me keep the army visually making sense.
Here's the first scout test fits:
And a terminator before undercoating I have a shot of, I will be interchanging deathwing parts to enhance the hawk theme going too:
Testing the scheme out on a scout:
Hopefully pics will get better too.

Very interesting heads! Do you plan on painting the lenses? Might make them more obviously hawk-like with some piercing yellow hawk-eyes.

That's a great helm, the headswaps here already look really solid. +1 to painting lenses for that extra Stargate vibe

Already have on him, combination of the lighting angle and the brow covered it- hopefully it will show up better on the next pics.
Went for blue though...yellow seems like it would be above my skill level to achieve a glow effect...

Cheers X2, I never actually noticed the stargate vibe before...even watched it as a kid. Maybe it's all there subconsciously.

Thanks turtles
Automatically Appended Next Post: More painted bolter scouts (with lenses ) to check Im happy with the scheme, these guys just needs some finishing touches:
x3 Scout bikers, solid choice all round;
And there's a stock standard dread happening in the background. Nothing exciting on the build side but will post painted pics.

I wanted to try out the rust effects on the standard dread. MIght drybrush a bit more of an orange tinge to it...not sure, but other than that (and a damned mould line) I'm pretty happy.
Weathering will be be ramped up even further on the venerable versions, but I think I'll try hit a similar amount on the terminators, we'll see what the first few look like!

I think a little touch of orange would play nicely off the blues you have going on. Is it poseable? Magnetized?

Agreed. A touch of orange worked quite well. No not poseable beyond the interference fit on the arms for weapon swaps. I always get paranoid about bodies going flying, plus I quite like crafting/commiting to a pose (not that i di much this time round). Im trying to make the next dreads more dynamic.

So I joined a narrative campaign for beginners/restarters.
The long and short of it is I need 500 pts done for monday.
Because I'm difficult I wont be including the dread or terminators in the initial 500.
The good news is I've completed some sniper scouts:
And this is the 500 pts I'm aiming for:
Terminator captain, venerable dread, scout bikers to go.

If you plan on using Jumppacks somewhere.. Puppetswar has some nice mechanic "steam wings" that would fit the aesthetics
Reminds me of Stargate as well, I like it :-) Could be used as inspiration for Chapter specific gear (Powerstaffs?)

So I had my first ever 8th edition game yesterday. It was a...educational. A warptimed maulerfiend destroyed my dread on a first turn charge and proceeded to rampage through my lines. Still had fun though, lessons learned and all that .
Anyway, got my little force largely done. Details not quite there but here are some pics with an extra rusty captain.
Shield needs cleaning up too....i need to make sure I actually fix all these aspects I keep pointing out... Automatically Appended Next Post: rocksville wrote:If you plan on using Jumppacks somewhere.. Puppetswar has some nice mechanic "steam wings" that would fit the aesthetics

Yes I've seen them...unfortunately not planning on having assault marines. I do really like them though.
If I include a character I may go straight for sigmarine wings to make a statement.

My hawks finally get some wings.
First up, a LS storm to ferry round some scouts.
Not much, but I did cut remove the seats at the back so x2 based models can quite easily slot into position.
And a truesmash captain. Jump pack, combi melta (wrist mounted melta), relic blade, and that special 2+ relic armour I forget the name of atm.
Made using a sigmarine, deathwing terminator axe and of course the hawk head.
I dont think he'll be rusty.... torn between bluish tinged steel, or mostly bronze.

He rocks. Time to stop the Tau'ri from ever rising up to challenge the Goa'uld. Great model. The Dread, too. It looks intense. For the captain I vote bronze with the blue steel accents.
