Easiest would probably be Space Marines.

Most difficult would probably be Necrons.

They play almost exactly the same LOL.

The hardest part of this game is deploying in the correct place so you don't get annihilated first turn - without abandoning the objective or hurting your return damage.

So armies that move fast and are easy to hide are the easiest to play. This makes DE the easiest army in the game. Deploy out of LOS - move really far flying over everything and unleash massive numbers of shots with -1 to hit and invo save everywhere. Ynnari and CWE make this a little more difficult because there is spell planning and stuff. Really mono DE is the easiest army IMO.

GSC I agree with - probably the hardest army to play. So much going on with ambush and things need to happen in certain orders. It really is difficult to keep track off. So probably the hardest to play.

Marines might be easy to play but difficult to master. There is a great deal of knowledge and skill needed to know when you need to stand still and blast away or split out and cap (6" auras). Plus most of your units are pretty fragile and slow. The deployment phase is actually really difficult for marines. Because slow glass cannons and short range guns.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

After CA and beta bolter, I'm gonna say BA are harder to play than GK. Not a popular opinion, but BA are really, really rough.

I don't think the thread is about army power level, but I do generally agree with you.

Any army that has to move a lot is going to be more difficult than one that forms up a gunline, because model postiioning and placement is more important.

in particular any army that relies on close combat, there is more benefits and drawbacks to making the correct moves than an army that relies on shooting.

Lets say I have a shooting army. In order to maximise the damage I do with my attacks, I need to:

-Shoot the correct weapons at the correct targets.

-Maneuver to be in range and line of sight of the correct targets.

-Decide which stratagems to use when to do the most damage.

Let's say I have a melee army. in order to maximise the damage I do with my attacks, I need to:

-Make sure the models with the correct weapons attack the correct targets.

-Analyse the risk vs reward of declaring from particular charge distances

-See if I can declare a charge from a position where I can deny overwatch attacks

-Determine risk vs reward of declaring charges against additional "stretch goal" targets vs the risk of losing extra models to overwatch

-See if I can make my charge move to deny Heroic Interventions

-See if i can make my charge move to allow me to Pile In or Consolidate into additional models, denying them shooting.

-Figure out how to declare my attacking units in the best order to avoid return damage from opponent interrupting/attacking back

-use my Pile In and Consolidate moves to surround enemy models, denying Fall Back and keeping my unit from being shot.

-Decide which stratagems to use when to do the most damage.

The difference between a good player performing a charge, close combat action, and pile in and a bad player doing that is much higher than a good player performing a shooting action and a bad player.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
