I'm interested in running some sentinels in my new Steel Legion army, but Ive never used them before. What is the best weapon load-out so I can get my points worth?

AFAIK Autocannons are the most efficient loadout. Magnets are your friends here.

For Steel legion, yea probably Autocannons, though Missiles aren't a bad choice at only 5 pts more.

Plasma is best for Cadian though.

Yeah autocannons seems like the best option, and I wouldn't worry too much about missiles since I plan on having a couple HWT filled with missile launchers. They are so cheap right now I'd have to be a fool not to.

In general, Autocannons or Missile Launchers. Cheap enough to keep the cost down, and Heavy so you don't feel like you're wasting your trait.

Save the Plasma for Cadians and the Heavy Flamers for Catachans.

I usually run them as plasma but am always tempted to run them stripped down to multilasers due to culling points for other better items.

The times I have run them with plasma, they never make the points back so I think multilasers are even better in my mind.

Multilaser sentinels are going to be even better if you're playing ITC with the new missions for March. "Engineers" is a new secondary objective, where you can have a unit sit on an objective and do nothing, and it scores points. Sentinels are cheaper than Guard squads, and harder to kill, so they can just sit back and score victory points while they give me CP for having a brigade. Excellent.

That's an interesting option. They are practically useless otherwise so might as well just hide.

Engineers is risky though given if they enemy has artillery its easy enough to lose.

True, but it takes basilisk-level artillery to kill an armored sentinel reliably. Most armies don't have things like that, that can just ignore line of sight. It is really risk though you can't nominate a different engineer unit, so if both die you are in serious trouble.

Actually to counter that, I assume you can pick engineer if you know the enemy has no artillery or nothing that can breach your castle so it is still a valid choice.

Yup, you pick secondaries after you see the map and your opponents list. So you can do it in a way that it would be very hard to stop.

I tend to keep the cost down - they are susceptible to death from multiwound weapons and I find stuff like guard squads in cover are tougher and can take orders so a boost for the pricier stuff like lascannon.

Though if you are steel legion I believe the signature weapon was the multilaser? (Personally I would go with the autocannon or missile launcher above.)
