Had this Eldrad hanging around for a while and decided to paint him up to fill the time between now and starting my next kill team.

For more of an exercise in modelling than anything else, I was thinking about how I might be able to magnetise him so that he can adopt both buildable poses (ie. sword in hand/sheathed). I was thinking about how I might do this, but I'm struggling for ideas on the sheath (it might not be possible...). Obviously, the arms are easy. For the sheath, I was thinking you could just magnetise it where it would normally attach to the gemstone. This does have the issue though that it might not look very good when it doesn't have the sheath there. So my options are to find something to stand in for the sheath when I don't want it on, or find another way to do it.

I though perhaps you could drill from inside the torso to as close to the back of the model as you can and wedge the magnet in that way. But I thought perhaps this would be difficult to achieve, I might drill through and I will likely misalign it.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

He's got a hollow body. Why not stick a slightly heavier magnet in from the middle?

I would be happy to do this for you as a commission. PM me if you're interested.

That's an excellent idea. Might try that first to see if it works. If it doesn't, it's no harm done and I'll try the next thing!

Great news! It works! In theory... Now to just get some smaller magnets to see if it will still work with the sword...

Good suggestion.

Glad it worked!

Final progress. Managed to get it done after lots of procrastinating and thinking! Couldn't manage to magnetise the arms just because of the way the pieces fit together. Would have required a VERY small magnet! Decided to pin instead.

For the backpack, I opted for a smaller magnet than the one pictured above, and ended up hollowing out the inside of the body even more. Now the magnets are almost touching and it has a very strong connection.

Not going to lie to myself and say it's perfect...Far from it! But I'm glad I finally made a leap and tried magnetising/pinning/drilling for the first time.

p.s. I love this Eldrad sculpt!
