I do think that GW are shying away from a certain type of model now: remaking old models.

This is why we are not seeing new standard Marines, new aspect warriors, new ork boyz. It seems that most things they make now are completely new troops or vehicles and not updates to existing models.

I think this might be because GW have decided that they don't want collectors to just keep using their old models.

I would expect all factions to eventually get a primaris like treatment rather than updated versions of the same models.

Exactly, only the apple polishers of 40k are getting the 'Primaris' treatment, I mean Chaos are the defective little cousins of marines now, I hate GW for doing that, totally unnecessary and terrible on every aspect. CSM are supposed to be SM's nemesis and now they are old dudes fighting younger stronger marines. Won't stop me collecting them but GW are a real piece of gak of a business pardon my french, no one can ruin the lore or the game like GW can.

*ducks underneath a thrown cabbage by a guy yelling "WHY ONLY ONE CHAINCANNON? WTF WHY THEY HAVE HAND JOIN TO GUN??? THE NEW CSMS DONT LOOK THE SAME AND IM MAD! THE NEW TERMINATORS LOOK THE SAME AND I'M MAD! WHy ARE THE NEW PRICE IS MORE THAN 30 DOLLARS?"*

Yeah I can't imagine why GW isn't focusing more on revisiting existing model lines! Some of these models are so old!

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

the point is CSMs got basicly their entire classic infantry line revamped. which pretty clearly proves GW's happy to redeisgn old minis if they think the demand is there

But, we just saw a bunch of infantry updated for Chaos?

I can sort of see what you're saying. But at the same time, we won't see major back to back releases, nor will we see parallel releases. So if Aspects are next on the list, it might be several months before we see them.

On the other hand, what was the last Tank like vehicle that was released? I'm assuming it was the SS Repulsive?

If you're going to define "tank" in a way that is drastically different to how others might - say, models with the Vehicle keyword, or large model kits, then it's up to you to determine what actual percentage of GW's current product line fits your chosen category.

If the only things you are actually willing to consider "tanks" are:

-transport vehicles
-shooting-based vehicles of rhino size or larger

then how much of 40k's product line was "tanks" in what you consider to be "the good old days when GW wasn't afraid to release tanks"?

The last time I remember lots of vehicle models coming out close together was the time they released the hunter/stalker and the wyvern/hydra/taurox kits. Around that time you also saw releases of

centurions
heldrake
sm flyers
orkanauts
meganobz
flyers for basically everyone
ogryn/bullgryn
militarum tempestus
wraithknight

etc, etc, etc - in other words, an extremely similar diverse range of models of all types with transports/main battle tanks only being about 5-10% of the total range.

I don't see that percentage as having particularly decreased in a really dramatic way. And we know that there is at least one release (sisters of battle) that is almost certain to have a revamp/reimagining of several iconic main battle tank models as sisters leave behind the resin rhino upgrade kit era for two of their three main vehicles.

There are a ton of factions in the game that just don't use tanks. Harlequins, Tyranids, daemons, etc - any time any one of those is getting an update, ou won't be seeing vehicles. and there are others that do include a ton of vehicles, but which you've excluded from your definition, like Orks. So of course if you cherrypick a definition where tanks are rare...tanks will seem to be rare.

Are Sea Lions going extinct? I haven't seen any of them recently and I live in boston, by the ocean. Well, 30 miles from the ocean. Really close. i visited the ocean last weekend and I didnt' see any sea lions.

Neither the Immolator nor Exorcist is resin.

The Immolator is a full plastic kit. The Exorcist is a bunch of metal plates and metal superstructure.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I’d expect if GW goes full out for sisters, the Immolator and Excorcist will be dropped for re-invisioned versions or completely new vehicles not based on a Rhino chassis.

Overall, it’s clear GW releases models for what they are inspired to make anymore, rather than which models need updating or have gaps in the line.

TL;DR “we made this cool model. Make sure it gets some rules to encourage folks to buy it”

It's not that GW is shying away from releasing vehicles. It's that the vehicles they release are mostly crap so you don't see any of them. Outside of knights, almost every vehicle that's come out since 8th dropped is entirely useless.

Knights are a big part of WHY other vehicles are crap as well.

Could this be a new and different trend in 40k?"

To be fair, he did say ALMOST every vehicle.

Like the Ridge Runner. Love it, have three, but it's really not in the best place as a choice compared to the Goliath or a Sentinal.

Seriously? So the Falcon is from the 90s, but half the line is still Failcast that was made later?

I did not know this. I just assumed the Falcon - being such a nice kit - was more recent.

Falcon is 22 years old this year.

The Aspect warriors have gone through 3 incarnations. The first from the early 90's, the second in the early 2000's with some much maligned redesigns (such as the infamous Striking bunny rabbits) and then the ones we have now circa 2005/06 that came out with the 4th ed Eldar codex. Only ones that haven't changed at all are the Warp Spiders (which came out in the mid 90's) and the Shining Spears which appeared with the second batch IIRC.

I now love my 3 Falcons even more for some reason. If I knew it I'd make them a cake on their 20 year b-day.

They need a plastic incarnation, bar dire avengers though.

Dire Avengers are pretty awful though so if the others get an update I'd not be happy that they get left out.

How are they awful, I collect Eldar, I think they look awesome. The pnly way I could see them looking better is with FW resin.
