What really happened to Aeonid Thiel? Is a "Sons of Thiel" chapter even a plausible idea?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Hello everybody, so I've been trying to come up with an idea for my first army. I like the Ultramarines but I wanted to do something different and unique. I've come up with a few ideas, the most prominent of which I will link here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/727301.page

I was getting ready to kind of run with this when I decided I wanted a little more background on the smurfs and how they acted and their mannerisms and whatnot. So I picked up Know No Fear and just finished it and I was wondering what happened to Thiel? I really don't have the time to go sifting through a bunch of novels unfortunately so I did about 10 minutes worth of googling and I didn't come up with much. Some stuff about him being an Alpha legion assassin trying to kill Roberto Girlyman but that just didn't seem likely to me so I decided to come ask you guys. Also, in my googling I came across a comment on a post on bolters and chainswords by somebody called Brother Tyler and he suggested how cool it would be to make a "Sons of Thiel" chapter. And I totally agree! That sounds pretty awesome, but is it viable. Is there enough room in Thiel's story after Calth to make this idea maybe not complete heresy? Any and all feedback is welcome, thank you!

One of the Dark Imperium books (I think Plague Wars) mentions that Guilliman tried to know what had happened to Thiel but couldn't find any mention of his fate; he seems to have been forgotten so it would be a little strange to have a successor chapter named after him.

On the other hand, Guilliman himself could have named a newly formed Primaris chapter to honour him in the current era, that could be quite cool!

He becomes the Captain of the Ultramarines 2nd Company, and holds this position until at least when Guilliman got wrecked by Fulgrim.

I'd say it's quite likely that he would have been an highly honoured figure, either staying on as 2nd Company Captain, moving up to 1st or even Chapter Master, before inevitably dying.

I like the idea of him becoming chapter master of the Ultramarines.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

It could be that they had a name change or the wrong one was recorded. If they can found the Celestial Swords twice they can do that.

You could go full Greek and call the chapter the “Thielonids/Thielonides” the “ides” ending meaning “son/sons of”.
