Very new to marines with some experience with knights and armigers. Was curious which loadout people found the most competitive for a fluffy iron hands dreadnought list and what it would look like?

That's a very subjective question and probably best answered in the army list section after you make a test list so people can comment.

I've been running 3 contemptors, 2 redemptors in a 1250 list. All wins so far.

If your running as iron hands avoid venerables as you can't use two feel no pain like rules.
A standard dread with twin las and missile is solid for his points and a full dskka redemption does good work.
If your willing to splash for forgeworld the Leviathan is a great model and a deadly brick on the table

Contemptor and Contemptor Mortis are good options too. Excellent loadout options that can be tailored to complement the somewhat more limited arrays that non-FW dreads carry.

Thanks all for the comments! I’m liking the ironclad both for the model and the rules. Is he worth it to bust up tough units or are Dreadnoughts best delegated to shooting?

My feeling is that Dreads don't get enough attacks in melee for the dedicated CC variants to be viable on their own. One or two Dreads with a melee weapon make useful counter-charge units to protect your gunline but I don't feel they have the speed or volume of attacks to spearhead an assault.
Practically the only melee Dread I see run competitively is the Blood Angel Librarian Dread which works because it is a Character and has access to Wings of Sanguinius (for an additional 12" move) and Quickening (for an extra D3 attacks).
Having said all that. The Ironclad is T8 which is quite handy in a horde meta as it is twice as resilient against massed S4 attacks as a T7 Dread. Also, Hurricane Bolters are the new hotness thanks to the Bolter Discipline rule so maybe it has some mileage in it.
