It's not really an issue, but the four Top Rated Images that show on the front page of my personal gallery haven't changed almost since I started posting images. Every once in a while, a different photo will make an appearance, but then go back to what was there before. I have a hard time believing that Enforcer's butt is really so popular...

It goes by the overall rating, but because most of your highest rated images have only one or two votes, it just defaults to the same group of images until something else is voted higher, or one of those images is voted lower.

Slightly related but does anyone have a problem with starting a "Vote for this image, post your's too!" thread?
When votes first started in the gallery there were a few of these but I feel that the function may have been a bit neglected more recently.

Was voting a bit more frequent back in the good old days? It feels like it but some behind the scenes stats are always fun.
Or if there is a better way to drive traffic in that direction.?

I doubt anyone would take exception to a post like that. I remember (and have been involved in) posts that encouraged people to vote on stuff in the Gallery.

I have a lot of votes because I used to work shift and would look at the gallery to pass time when I was bored.

No problem with such a thread, it'll certainly help the front page and Facebook feed along nicely.

We always welcome more folks to vote in the gallery, we've got an excellent turbo-voting system in place (bottom of the gallery page) that makes voting a breeze if you've got some time to kill and want to help folks out. Though I will admit that using this method tends to give you a lot of stuff that should have voting disabled by default.

Those who disable voting on work in progress stuff, blurry battle reports, effing memes and other stuff like tools or work space pics, you are the real heroes of the gallery here.

At the moment, no.

The best course of action may be to politely ask the person who uploaded the images to disable voting on said image or images.

We have a dedicated gallery mod present, but I doubt he'd look forward to being swamped with requests for disabling voting on images on a daily basis.

I'll have to check when I upload some more pictures later this morning, but if there isn't anything there currently, some guidance on when to disable voting as part of the uploader sequence might be worthwhile.

Heck, possibly even flip the default to voting being disabled, with a note saying only to enable voting for images of completed models...

I have proposed the latter some time ago as a potential change for the next update to the site, whenever that may happen.

Yeah, there's nothing in there saying when you should turn it off, other than if you don't 'want' your images to be voted upon.

As a rule of thumb, though, only 'showcase' images (ie: finished stuff that you want to show the world) should have voting turned on. Unfinished models, battle report images, or other random gaming images should have voting disabled.

In a related vein, What percentage of images uploaded are owned by the person putting it up? As almost 100% of what I have hosted here was snapped with my phone or camera, I click that “I own this” box a lot. It would be nice to have the default swapped. Or have an option in the setting for where it defaults, for people who mostly re-post stuff here.

I’d be fine with default vote being “off’. I post a lot of WIPs and battle reports, which don’t really need to be voted on.

Also quick question, is there any way to quickly select multiple images at the same time and edit the settings for it like that? Because i wanted to make all images "owned by me".

After the fact? I’m not sure that can be done and you’ll have to do them all individually just like when you upload them.

I have to go through like over 300 images just to select that option, oh who cares lol. To be honest i didn't know you had to pre select before uploading, so my bad any way but yeah if you could select images with out having to actually click each one individually to change details that would be handy. Oh well i upload so much garbage that i only need to select a few i like for that purpose.

So, FWIW, I think it needs to be more prominently displayed that the expectation is voting is disabled on anything but showcase pics.

I've uploaded eight pages of BS in the last year, completely unaware that maybe only five pics should have voting enabled.

I think I've fixed it now. Apologies to anyone I annoyed.

I think it's been generally assumed that people would only want their images voted on if it was something actually worth voting on... but yes, that has resulted in people just leaving voting on everything, and mods having to turn it off manually on stuff that shouldn't have it, so probably warrants a tweak.

On the ownership issue - IIRC from when this has been brought up in the past, Lego set it up the way it is to avoid potential copyright issues. Having to specifically state that the image is yours works better than relying on people to state when it isn't. For the same reason, this had to be on each and every image, rather than allowing people to 'batch' it.

I might be misremembering that, though, so it would be worth revisiting it.

It does feel bad when your top images are from 6 years ago... Hmn, I might just disable voting on those so I can stop seeing the same bloody images there every time I upload anything. Ah, memories of old bad models.

Thankfully Lego included a "disable voting on all images in this gallery" option. Then you can manually go into that gallery and manually enable voting on images you think are worth a vote. Ah, though I've no idea if disabling then re-enabling votes will mess with votes already accrued (I assume that's still held on the system). ...Something which I really aught to do in my own gallery some time. But well, when you have almost 2000 images that seems like a bit of a mountain ("do I paint more models today, or finally tidy my gallery ...and add more bloody tags to all those images!").
