Put on your tin-foil hat, its crack pot theory time.

Mine is that the Tyranids are actually daemons that can stay in the material universe, sent to the milky way by Malal just to mess up the four remaining gods plans.

Who else has some crack-pot theories?

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

You know its a sin to speak or type his name aloud, you'll never be allowed to be on the Emperors side in the warp when you die.

Mine is, and I think this is actually possible, that the emperor is actually fully dead and the throne is just like a big preservation device that stops him going off. And when guiliman went in there for the day he just sat there wondering what to say to everyone and in the end decided to just that all was ok and dad had put him in charge.

The old astronomicon actually still works because of all the psykers and that that are killed and power it etc.

I also like the idea that the tyranids are running away from something worse.

The current state of Necrons is all a random lark by the Deceiver, who reprogrammed all the Lords to believe they beat the C'tan aeons ago, replaced their personality engrams with those of unused villains from Brendan Fraser's The Mummy series, coated everything in cheap bling, and even managed to convince them that they actually use clearly satirical units like the Tomb Blades.

Everyone else in the galaxy is utterly baffled by this sudden switch from "silent and austere mechanical death" to "Saturday morning cartoon villain", but didn't really understand much about the Necrons to begin with.

Part of me thinks this would be interesting, but part of me thinks this would also be terrible:

The reason why they've been doing stories and such around Ollanius Pious is because...he's the one on the golden throne. The Emperor, as we see him in the Horus Heresy series is actually dead, Ollanius Pious was somehow able to defeat Horus (latent powers?) And took the Emperor's place. He's also the one responsible for pushing the Imperial Creed; he knows worship creates/empowers warp entities, so he's using the Imperial Cult as a means of bringing the Emperor back.

There would be soooooo much rage if this was the case, and rightfully so, since it negates a lot of the established lore in a way that seems cheap, but a part of me thinks this would be the only way to make the climatic battle any more interesting.

Angron is the smartest of the Primarchs. His relentless unthinking aggression is actually a brilliantly thought out strategy that negates most of his opponents advantages.

Malcador the Sigilite and the Emperor are the same person. The golden-skinned giant in the baroque armor depicted as the Emperor is in fact a vat grown meat puppet for distraction and propaganda purposes. Malcador is the Emperor's real body.

Urien Rakarth is secretly a Ynnead cultist, with a twist. He knows that when Slaanesh dies, there will be room in the Warp for a new deity; a deity of sensation and torment. He intends to become that deity himself.

The Emperor is a giant incompetent moron with no special skills and ability beside an incredible talent for stealing other people success and surrounding himself with people of great powers. He isn't a psycher, but can mimic psychic powers thanks to technologies he discovered. He's not immortal. He simply stole credits from other warlords of passed era as his own. He didn't built the Primarchs, they were given to him whole by the Chaos Gods to start a giant war. He is dead. The Golden Throne doesn't keep him alive. He just had a huge piece of ancient tech modified so he could sit in it and pretend to make it work and since no one knew better (or at least no one not willing to use the Emperor as a shied to hide their own ambitions) nobody questionned it.

It explains the frustration of some Primarchs toward their father who "steals their glory" and pushed Horus to betray him. It explains his widely variable level of powers from invicible god to dude who almost gets killed by an ork. It also explains the Primaris Marines. Cawl could improve Space Marines because they were poorly designed in the first place by a man dabbling in things way beyond his sphere of expertise (and actual Magos who never received credit for their work for political reasons).

Wow, I take it you really, really didn't liked this crack pot theory!

You know if it were to be true, it would of course be rather idiotic, but when they started this entire Horus Heresy thing, I expected that when the curtain was to pulled we would not find heroes worthy of mythology, but people with their predictable and sometime unpredictable vices and virtues. I was a bit disappointed that the Primarchs, Malcador, the Emperor were indeed worthy of mythology and, maybe, worship from a "insider" perspective. The stories of the little guys under them were great, but it feels that instead of reading the actual story, we are reading the mythology, but maybe that was the point in the first place.

anyway, back to crack pot theory the two missing Primarchs were rebellious, their forces were decimated, but they are still alive. Malal is actually the name of one of those Primarchs and that's why it seems to attack all other Primarch forces without distinction.
