With the new FAQ stating that overwatch are shooting attacks resolved "as if" it was the shooting phase,
and overwatch stating that all normal shooting rules apply except that you only hit on 6's, if i were to charge with a <10 wounds character that isnt the closest unit, could my opponent not declare it as a target for his shooting(overwatch) attack?

I was about to post this same thing
Can you no longer OW a character if they are the closest?
"With the exception of Stratagems, all rules (e.g.
abilities, Warlord Traits, psychic powers etc.) that would
apply in a specific phase apply to actions that are taking
place ‘as if it were that phase’. However, if a Stratagem
specifies that it must be used in a specific phase, then
it can only be used in that phase (e.g. you cannot use a
Stratagem that says ‘Use this Stratagem in the Shooting
phase’ to affect a unit that is Shooting ‘as if it were
the Shooting phase’). For the purposes of this FAQ,
Overwatch attacks are also considered to be attacks made
as if it were your Shooting phase."
Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually its faq
Q: Can a unit fire Overwatch at a Character if, when it
declares its charge at them, there are other visible enemy models
that are closer?
A: Yes.

As with the Dark Reaper issue we've got contradictory and circular logic FAQs. It's a shame GW can't even do FAQs right.

How could we possibly find out whether or not we're allowed to shoot at Characters during Overwatch when they're not the closest unit. It's not like GW answered that question specifically, right? It might go one way or the other, obviously!

Edit: Removed my unnecessary comment. You can overwatch a Character that isnt the closest as stated by Amishprn86's comment

Lol, everything i see BCB's avatar i just see this :
his reactions do not help
That, or the "Look at this I found, obviously GW are so incompetent!!!!" attitude. I don't get that, with every rule, weapon, strategem etc that's created there's likely to be dozens of interactions, some are bound to slip though the net when you're a small team working at a tight deadline.

The post prior to BCB's includes the relevant FAQ language allowing units to shoot at charging characters even if they are not the closest unit.
While I could do without the condescension towards the GW rules team, this observation has nothing to do with the topic. Perhaps the personal attacks could be taken to the off-topic forum.

YEs indeed "yes" is very unclear word from GW. Very hard to understand indeed.
