Noop question here. I'm actually surprised I haven't come across this before. What kind of unit can capture an objective, and is it different between the book missions and the ITC missions? Thanks.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams
Unless the datasheet says otherwise, any unit can claim an objective.
Also, in your codex you'll find an additional rule that troops trump any other unit when in a battle forged army. When two units have the same rule, the winner is the one with more models.

Yes, in Matched Play, as per CA18:
When determining which player controls an objective marker, exclude all units that have the Flyer Battlefield Role – these units can never control objective markers.
Some missions specify a unit type or battlefield role. Most allow 'any' unit to score. Flyers are subject to the boys on the ground rule so cannot hold an objective.

Sucks to be Jump Infantry? Or am I missing something?

They have the Fly Keyword but arn't Flyers. Flyers are their own force org slot and as per recent FAQ have been given the "Aircraft" Keyword if i remember correctly.

Jump Infantry are usually Fast Attack, not Flyer (Noting that Flyer is a battlefield role and not just anything with the FLY keyword).

Oh. There are units that FLY and there are FLYERS - Oof. That was not well planned.

FLY is a keyword given to units. FLYER is a battlefield role, like Fast Attack or Heavy Support.
Units with FLYER keyword always comes with FLY keyword. Not all units with FLY keywords have FLYER battlefield role.

Better than in previous editions where T'au and Eldar both had Pathfinder options (for Eldar it had been an upgrade for Rangers.)

Not really, DE and Marines now both have Reavers and CWE and Skitarri both have Rangers. Limited naming skills GW has.

Doesn't matter when spoken.
I like to think the latter is pronounced "ree-AY-vers" or "RAY-vers"
