I dug through some of the FAQs but can't make heads or tails of when what updates occurred outside of the obvious April FAQ. I haven't played 40k for 6 months and there have been piles of codexes and a Chapter Approved since then.

I'm specifically looking if there were any updates to Death Korps of Krieg. Are they still being ignored, despite the huge price hike?

Nope, and it's the one mystery which remains unanswered. Will Forgeworld do future Imperial Armour books? Will they include older kit rules? Will they do a revised Index, or insert some Codex Astartes style articles in White Dwarf? GW apparently took over writing the rules ofr Forgeworld units, but we've zero indication how they'll be doing things moving forward.

If I'm honest, I expect the current Forgeworld kits to stay with their index stats indefinitely, with only new models getting new rules. New models will get better rules and the slow cycle will continue.

On moon miranda.

It appears that with the death of Alan Bligh and the advent of 8E, FW has largely stopped producing new material and product lines. We've gotten a smattering of new products, but mostly it's been translating HH 30k stuff into 8E, and the main studio appears to be primarily responsible for FW rules support now. We've had no new books since the Index releases when the edition started, and certainly no no Imperial Armour books in the vein of the Siege of Vraks or the Badab War series. Many older kits and lines are slowly being removed and squat'd.

It is kinda lame that GW is handling FW like this. They've been the red headed(gingers are ok) bastard stepchild that makes cool stuff but is hamstrung by daddy.

I'm happy that some of my FW stuff (Helios specifically) got cheaper(surely not $), but updated rules would help significantly more.

Cant wait until they have some chapter specific bodies(since torsos are not an option) for Primaris(whenever that happens) & maybe diff turret options for the repulsive(not misspelled). The Salamanders doors for it do look good

Forgeworld is being reworked to eventually solely do Specialist Games. Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Horus Heresy, and so on.

I don't know what this means for existing FW 40k products long term, but I would not expect many more in the future.

Thanks for the info. I had expected as much, unfortunately.

I had really hoped they were just being pokey about updating the rules, but there are still serious basic mechanical issues with the DK rules that were never even FAQ'd. Looks like they aren't going to be either.

It's a bit crappy that it costs so much to get an inferior product that receives no support whatsoever.

Well, yeah, they made some changes to FW stuff in CA:2018.

Nothing major, though, just points tweaks.

I run my Renegades & Heretics as vanilla Guard, I'd advise you do the same with the DKoK.

Sad truth of the matter, everything unique got stripped out of the lists FW had, Corsairs are now somewhat illegal even to be fielded and the other lists are balance wise under GK.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Shame that they didn't add corsairs into the ynarri index. Giving them the option to be reborn coteries would have been nice.

Forge World is now focused on 30k and Specialist Games - they will not be making any more IA books unfortunately. It makes me sad. The Studio is writing all 40k rules now and so models FW creates will eventually get 40k rules - but probably not in a huge hurry.

I know this for a fact actually. Stux is absolutely correct. No I won't share my sources. Though in re-reading it he left out 30k. 30k will still be handled by FW.

I'd settle for the option of running Coteries at all.

FW has been in a daze since Alan passed away with no real direction. HH is dead. No word on new Imperial Armor. Indexes are a stopgap at best that look like end product.

Back in the day I used to think FW was the superior product line with great rules and support. Seriously, the Siege of Vraks series is a master-work of fluff and models as an example.

They did release beta rules for all the remaining custodes models not too long ago (January I think). Which was nice of them.

If we're honest, Forgeworld used to be boutique...and often handled things that GW couldn't afford to put into plastic or metal/plastic as a normal kit. It was also a fun little offshoot because setting up stuff for resin production was far cheaper than plastic. With GW's current financial form and general increase in customer base, it makes very little sense to have two studios.

Forgeworld resin is still sub-par and GW's plastics have become increasingly detailed and better each year. There's no longer any advantage to resin sculpts (they used to be significantly sharper and more detailed than older plastic tech). Forgeworld's boutique nature is simply not really needed nowdays.

They don't serve a real need with GW's production capabilities and speed of release now. I appreciate the Forgeworld guys who arguably have cooler ideas, better fluff writing and generally seem to get away with cooler ideas than basic (read: slightly boring) GW. But product-wise there's very little that couldn't be done in GW plastic...and sales are good enough they could warrant almost any of the major Forgeworld models in plastic.

They make more sense making specialist games, and even that is a bit of a stretch. I think GW is just resting on their laurels because people are still spending (way too much) money on Forgeworld resin...so they don't necessarily want to can them too fast.

The can do a fair amount with the molding tech GW uses, but there are things that cant be done easily with HIPS. EDM & laser micro engraving allow more complex molds but GW are limited by their sprue sizes as to how much they can fit in(both detail & quantity). Utilizing 3d printed ~10micron prints(SLA) as masters for stuff is really easy now.

GW just needs to let FW do FW things model wise and handle all fluff & rules . I look at the FW shoulder pauldrons for my Salamanders and compare them to the DW version and cannot think how GW could even come close in plastic with current scale/mold tech. I've only had one actual problem with anything FW related and it was a legion rhino door. they replaced it in 3 days from when I called. I could see GW doing doors more efficient but not DG, WB or Salamanders. Where are the repulsor turrets? Legion specific primaris torsos for those of us who love the models but want more individuality & Custom/variety of poses. Resin upgrades to redemptor?

They (GW/FW) need to get on the same muthafunkin pages rules wise. If I'm paying premium points I would expect it to not suck(not tourney but honest friendly 40k). Glad my helios went down but it would be much better with adamantine tracks so it actually hurts/can fall back w no -hit(actually all LR Varieties). It would be nice to be able to run my laser destroyer as a quad LC on my rapier.

To be fair to FW resin, there's still stuff Resin can do that plastic cannot, at least as a single piece (undercuts for example), and GW plastic still isn't doing anything on the scale of some of FW's larger models.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't expect Forgeworld to disappear - they're probably making money hand over fist. Their prices are borderline insane on a lot of things. And resin still makes sense for very poor selling models like Titans, etc. Huge expensive things that few people buy - that's boutique enough to warrant a special side project arm to handle.

I should have clarified, I don't think Forgeworld will go anywhere. People are paying incredible amounts of money for mediocre resin, some designs being 10-15 years old already. As long as that dog hunts, they'll keep feeding it.

I'm simply saying Forgeworld doesn't really need to exist. It remains the awkward off-shoot stepchild which GW can't figure out...but it's fine as long as they're bringing in money. Also there is a long-time and heavily invested branding exercise going on. Forgeworld still commands a comical amount of money and is seen as a premier product (for...reasons), so even if it would make sense for GW to absorb the capabilities of Forgeworld outright they'd lose that "branding" which allows the inflated prices.
