Hi all,

I want to convert some squiggoths for my orks - not a fan of resin (or forgeworld prices for that matter) so I want to convert some up from a plastic kit.

I want to expand the snakebite aspects of my army, so I'm looking for a couple of similar-ish models on the right sort of size to play counts-as for gorka/morkanaughts (lots of armour replacing the capacity) and as regular FW squiggoths.

The aim is to start building my sculpting skills up, so having an existing beasty to sculpt onto will be a massive boon. I'm not ready for a sculpt from scratch!

Looked at the maw Kruncha but dislike the wings, not sure how easily they could be removed though. Current high-runner is the stonehorn/thundertusk, owing to their broad shoulders and existing saddle mounts. minor sculpting to the feet and a kustom head should pass them off as a squiggoth, and I even have an old spare one, so it will probably be my first attempt. Any other ideas welcomed though!

Cheers!

What is with the lizardmen *cough* Seraphon beasts? I'm currently building a Snakebite army myself so please do share your results once you get started

Dollar-store dinosaur toys are your best and cheapest bet, IMO.

+1 to that idea. I've seen many Squiggoth conversions made from toys from Dollar Tree. It's worth it to browse that store every month or two to see what they have lying around.

For a model of that size it would be cheaper to buy a child's toy and sculpt over it. Ideally using say something like a Hippopotamus or Rhino, building up a hump over its shoulders then sculpting on a load of wrinkles and bits of scale. With that you could build up a structure on its back, even just finding something like a plastic Ork kit and using that as a base.

Using that sort of toy may already have the sort of texture you're looking for and require as much sculpting. Though to be honest, with this scale of model you want it to look good, so spending the time with tutorials on sculpting animals (there's probably ones out there just for Squiggoths) would be worth it.

Edit: And as far as material, use milliput as a base then work on it with greenstuff or procreate. Sculpting onto such a large model would be a waste of pricy clay.

I have to agree, a large dinosaur toy, etc. would probably be best.

Look for toys of Reek from Attack of the Clones. The thing from Star Wars that actually strongly resembles a Squiggoth.

I bought a couple of big ones year ago pretty cheaply so that might be a starting point there.
