Only once every great while do I poke around in this subform. There are often good ideas. More often, not so much - but there is a common thread to the issues people have with the game. However, i generally quit reading when something really genius pops up and i realize "too bad GW doesn't give a crap". Just out of curiosity - has anyone's rules been implemented, even if just something you do as house-rules?

Having played in 3rd and having been interested during 6th and 7th - but dissuaded by the terrible rule-sets and argumentative nature of the game, I was happy when 8th came around because at least it was playable. However now it seems that they really just back-loaded the bloat into stratagems, army rules, abilities, and erratas/faqs to the point that it's nearly as bad. I've seen a lot of suggestions here that would fix some of the game's issues, but it always seems pointless to chime in here since it feels everyone's just playing around in imaginary land with their ideas that will never go anywhere.

In house? Yes. I mostly play a version of 40k that completely disregards the base rule book. The vast majority of 40ks issues can be addressed by playing a different base game that can utilize the codexes as is.

By GW in any official capacity? Not that i have ever seen.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

GWAR!'s fan-made FAQ back in 5th edition was more or less verbatim lifted by GW and used as an official FAQ.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Sounds like you've misunderstood the point of this forum a little. GW aren't in the habit of trolling random internet forums looking for potential game improvements - this forum just serves as a place for people to share and/or develop their own house rules. So whether or not these rules 'go somewhere' is entirely up to you and your opponent.

I haven't misinterpreted it. I'm not under the impression that these are suggestions to GW, but there are similar themes to people's issues.

For example - space marines were generally too weak. That was a common complaint. Too few bodies putting out too few shots. Later - the bolter discipline rule came out. I think it was an opinion that was shared throughout the 40k audience.

I don't agree with your claim that this is a random internet forum. It's really the largest 40k forum that exists at the moment. While the attitudes expressed here may or may not be in line with overall player's opinions, it's still relevant.

This forum has only 123.4k users registered. Not ACTIVE mind you. Just registered.

Even if it is the largest that exists atm it's still minuscule in terms of the actual paying customers or GWs target audience.

This place is completely irrelevant

Relevant to forum users, not to GW.

Yes, Dakka is currently the largest forum around for 40K discussion... but GW don't care in the slightest about forums, and never really have. There's a perception that those of us who frequent forums like this one have a very different view of the game to the majority of GW's customer base. Whether or not that's actually true, it's a perception that has resulted in GW over the years largely just discounting forum discussion as completely irrelevant to what they do.

They 'borrowed' chunks of Gwar's homebrew FAQ back in 5th(?) edition, and before that they had utilised the INAT FAQ (an FAQ brewed up for Adepticon and for some time adopted by a number of other independent tournies) to flesh out some of their own FAQs, but those are isolated incidents. For the most part, forum discussion just isn't on their radar.

I've been playing with my
Kroot Kill Team rules, yeah. It's resulted in a few tweaks, and will likely result in more.

Easier to talk someone around to trying out such a small moveset, however.

I played with a scrap monster for Necrons that I made up. It ate enemy vehicles in melee and converted them into wounds for itself and got stronger.

I played with my Necron fandex in twenty or so games back in 7th. I made fandexes for all my buddies' factions and a swathe of other armies. My buddies, with the exception of our SW and Grey Knights players all used the fandexes I made, sometimes it was fair sometimes it was unfair, generally more balanced and fun than the original codices. A couple of people on the internet tried out some of the codices I made and used them in some games, they said they were fun.

In 8th a lot of the things I made re-appeared, I don't imagine it has anything to do with what I made. I also had a lot of gakky ideas that thankfully didn't reappear and a lot of changes I wish had made it.

*Factions other than Marines got Chapter Tactics, I only had it for Astra Militarum in addition to SM and CSM.
*Necrons got a snow-bally version of Reanimation Protocols that I hate, that was in an early fandex I made before I got really into making actually good things.
*Captains became more than beat-sticks.
*Tactical Marines are 13 pts and the balance of the game is centred around them being balanced at 13 pts. Okay, a tonne of things need to be nerfed for this to be the case. GW seemed to think Tacs were good enough when they made CA2018, or maybe bolter discipline was already planned and they thought it would have a large effect on Tacs... Yeah, no.
*Bolters getting special rules.
*Removal of free items and units.

One of my playgroups uses home-brew missions, disallows Chapter Tactics and allows T1 DS.
