Buddy and I are just getting into this game, just curious if anyone plays it right now.

Yeppers.

I'd spotted it as a good game to potentially introduce at the local club because of the player numbers flexibility (odd numbers are the enemy of many two player games, and people not getting to play something is the enemy of attendance at gaming clubs.)

I must admit, despite advocating for it, I found the first handful of games after the first a little dry, but we were playing with a limited rule set (identical cars, no sponsors, perks or audience votes.) Now we've expanded to include all those things and the full lunacy of the game has been unleashed!

It's also getting interest online from lapsed members, probably because the barrier to entry is so low and the ceiling for creativity is so high.

So now, having built a couple of cars to have a functioning team, I'm working on getting a table full of terrain (perhaps the one downside is the different scale means some stuff looks odd, and you need something to represent gates and turrets for the main scenarios, so you can't always use existing stuff.)

I'm intending to get my group into it soon when our current campaign is over. I have a ab full of Hot Wheels as potential cars. It's REALLY easy to just keep buying cars. Lol

Gaslands can be a hell of a lot of fun. It does really want you to use all the rules, though; like Azreal13 said, if you're using all the same car builds and no sponsors/perks, it's a little dry. Add in all that crazy stuff (and use the scenarios and Audience Votes!), and drive it like you're in a Mad Max movie, and it's a lot of fun.

If you try to keep it serious and competitive or whatever, it may not be that great. What makes it so fun, IMO, is some of the crazy chain reaction crashes and stuff you can cause. Just keep in mind it is not a driving simulator, but a cinematic driving game and you should be fine. Expect crazy Fast 'n Furious style stunts.

Precisely.

The last game I played, a three player death race, my opponents completely shiny and untouched car innocently opened fire at my smoking and mostly dead one. The subsequent attack finished me off, then my car veered out of control, smashed into his and then exploded, taking his car with it! IIRC his car might then have veered off in turn and smacked into one of his others too, it that might have been a different bit of the game, it was a few weeks back.

The player who ultimately won was the first to be wiped out, and nursed the car he respawned through all the carnage to sneak over the line!

Yeah, my buddy and I are definitely trying to get a group going, if nothing else but for this reason.

First couple games and any we demo we will probably do the limited set, but once we get the main rules under our belt, it's all out war!

Have you checked out Etsy? There's tons of terrain there. Also, this site has tons of stuff!

I've got an Anycubic Mega recently, so I'm printing the terrain. There's a lot of specially designed weapons, accessories and terrain on Thingiverse, and abunch more that can be repurposed.

There is a strong gaslands community at my local gaming group (North Devon, UK), I recently picked up a couple of hotwheels cars from a market (a whopping 30p each, big spender me!) and am preparing to go down for some introductory games. It looks like bloody good fun, and there are some beastly gaslands conversions out there, which I'm greatly looking forward to making!

the Barnstaple B&M has an interesting range of cars if your pocket stretchs to £1 each

I'll be running a game of Gaslands at a local library-run comic convention. I was there last year as a librarian/employee helping out, but this year I'm repping my local gaming group as a recruitment effort.

Nice.

The new Gaslands: Refueled will be out Sept 19th. that will compile a lot of the Extra Time and expanded rules together.

I am unsure if I am going to be picking it up.

I had my first game of Gaslands on Monday and it was brilliant. Just the basics, everyone had a Car with twin machineguns and pistols. Had an absolute blast, and the winner (my partner) had her car neck & neck to cross the finish line, with the player who she was tied with to go before her, so she shifted up every gear she could, got 6 hazards, failed her roll and tumbled over the line. epic finish.

I'm now very frustrated that logic tells me to wait until September to buy the second edition. I am very keen to have more games!

That was probably worth some audience votes!

We weren't using audience votes yet (except in an abstract way to allow respawning) but from what little I learnt about them, yeah, changing up 2 gears, skidding, spinning, wiping out and winning all in one move is probably up there!

(rolled spin, skid and shift, on an easy move so bonus shift. took the spin and skid to gain distance, and changed up 2 gears! She ended up with 8 hazard tokens )

before the wipe-out, her and the leader were both just about touching the finish line. it was awesome!

I couldn’t get a board gaming program going at my library but I’m hoping to try again someday. I’m in a branch with a couple of established game stores in the area but we’re really hard to get to during rush hour traffic. We had a comic con at another branch but I was too busy to help out doing anything.

My bag full of hot wheels to convert keeps getting heavier and I’ve got the new rules preordered.

Just curious how everyone thinks gassland stacks up to carwars? Steve Jackson came out with an update to carwars a couple of years ago - it's a little detailed but I loved when I was a kid

What's coming in the new version? I saw the new book was up for preorder on Amazon and ordered it sight unseen.

Rules wise very little, some wording clarification and a few balance adjustments, plus it's a larger format and more pages so apparently the layout is a lot clearer.

The existing Time Extended expansions are being folded in, so all the vehicles and weapons will be in one place.

The big thing is there's a bundle of new sponsors (factions) with the associated perks (upgrades, some of which are unique to a sponsor, some of which can be shared amongst two or three.)

I keep finding some GREAT Hot Wheels so I'm walking out of grocery stores and Walmarts with a few HWs every time I shop. There's a brilliant widebody 1970 Chevelle that looks so badass I've bought 3.

nice

whilst Gaslands is a very cheap buy in, it does have the danger of turning all sorts of stores into passive hobby stores, our local bargain tat mine is now a go to for the local players

pound shop / dollar store, those big barns full of stuff you never knew you didn't want at low low prices (tat is a broadly English phrase noting something of a substandard quality)

I’ve been 3D printing batches of machine guns and glued my first couple to get started with this game.

I’ll try to get these other ones spray tomorrow, I love old muscle cars so Novas really touch my heart and I just adore this funny car. The miniguns are glued on with magnets as turrets and I’ve been printing a few batches of guns at work on our printer. I wonder if I still have my old Hot Wheels from the early 80’s...
