Subject: Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought can’t take Codex Warlord Traits?

Deathwatch here, was thinking of adding a Chaplain Dreadnought for fun because I’m collecting every dreadnought. However, I was excited about making it my warlord because this thing would be hard to kill. But it seems battlescribe claims they can take neither Deathwatch warlord traits or a free relic. Where are these rules from and is this correct? Do I still get a free relic to pass on to someone else?

Deathwatch Chaplain Dreadnoughts can take Deathwatch Warlord Traits as they are a CHARACTER. They can also take a Deathwatch Relic (although the only legal ones they can take seem to be the Beacon Angelis and the Tome of Ectoclades, since they don't have the SIA rule). Currently they are migrating all the Forge World Space Marine stuff so a lot of it is broken right now. Make sure to report the bug or don't if you can't be bothered.

I will try again but I could not figure out their formula for submission last time. Also, battlescribe seems to be missing weapons options if anyone is able to report. Only flamers/ SB and can only take close combat weapon. No Lascannons or other weapons.

I've just tested it and the Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought in the Deathwatch roster can take Lascannons and other heavy weapons. Not sure why that's not working for you...
It has to take at least one melee weapon, but that's correct for what the model should have access to.. Automatically Appended Next Post: It also has access to all the Warlord Traits on Battlescribe.

Yea, its really hard to submit issues on battlescribe. I wonder how people do it. You must be a member of a secret society, or something.
Seriously dude, what is the problem ? There is a report a bug button on top of the program. Click on it, then you see "Are you reporting a problem with the data ?" And there is a link. Notify the author of the file. Click on it, and you will be taken this link : https://battlescribe.net/?faq=dataProblem There it tells you to go to manage data in battlescribe, go to Warhammer 40.000, click on the triangle button right next to it, then select report a bug. It will take you to all the data files of the authors. Choose the one you want to report, and click on report a bug. A window pops up telling you some stuff, click ok, fill out the form, and submit it. Done.
Or simply bookmark this link : https://battlescribedata.appspot.com/#/repo/wh40k

Yes, that's the problem. The Deathwatch one shouldn't have access to those.
In any case, Battlescribe often has errors.

Right, but you can select Deathwatch as the source of its warlord traits still.
Only real error is that it should also have access to certain relics.

I’m not sure you guys are seeing what I’m seeing. The only warlord traits available are the ones for codex space marines (generic chapters) and BRB. There are no available Deathwatch warlord traits.
On top of that, the relics part is explained in the unit description as Dreadnought Character (ability). It specifically states that dreadnought characters cannot take relics. However, I cannot find that definition anywhere.

Click on Warlord, then click 'parent codex' and select Deathwatch. This will open up the Deathwatch warlord traits.

Ah, there it is (Warlord is on the unit entry itself, under the two Melee weapons). I guess it's their way of dealing with the Forge World merging. I totally missed that since how they deal with WLT is inconsistent between armies.

Yeah it's not the most intuitive and is hopefully a temporary measure!

Omg why did I not think to do that... I even summbmitted it as a bug. Regrets...
Does anyone know where they came up with the Dreadnought Character rule that states they can’t use relics?

It's in the FAQ for the Forgeworld book. I'd missed myself until you pointed it out!

Add the following ability to this datasheet:
‘Dreadnought Character: This model may not be given
any relics.‘

The inconsistent handling of WLTs is an artifact of FW previously being a separate catalog, and a work-around for some missing functionality. A recent app bugfix should allow the tables to be correctly selected automatically once I sort out the next version of the FWAA library file.

Yeah was hoping it was a bug but it looks like they really can’t take relics... that’s so sad, I wonder why they did that. It’s not like dreads were super popular to begin with. Great work btw!

A dreadnought that you can't shoot at is pretty strong though.
I guess they may have been worried about certain relics causing balance issues on untargettable Dreads, and the easiest way to deal with it was a blanket ban. But who knows why GW does things (and doubly so for FW!).

Bryarth Ashmantle with the salamanders mantle was incredibly bonkers. An untargettable dread, T9(!) 2+/5++/4+++ AND when it gets within 8" will essentially wipe out anything it wants. For extra lulz, cast "might of heroes on him every turn to make him T10...
