Hey guys at our local group we have a BA 2v2 planned 750pts for each player on a 8x4 board.

My experience of 2v2 is that they always tend to turn into two 1v1s, does anyone have a fun immersive way to counteract this and try to make teamwork a mechanic

Off the top of my head I thought of maybe having each teams two players split there forces and basically have two sides of the board with equal amount of points for each player.

I have played something similar to this before and we used secret mission cards. A random mission is given to each team on top of the already game mission. Points were given for single missions and joint missions, more for the joint. At the start of the game all four players were given 2 mission cards. A secret single mission for each player and a joint secret mission for the two teams. Worked quite well.

Basically the team mates have to work together to get maximum points. We also rewarded missions achieved with more playing points for the following game if that makes sense.

Yes we made up the mission cards. Simple stuff like capture and hold certain points for x number of turns, kill the Captain, carry out an ambush, rescue resistance blokes in hidden location ,destroy the jeep, capture the vital documents and escape off board etc etc

Sounds a bit like 7th/8th 40k default missions to me but since I've never actually played it i may be mistaken.

What I've done from time to time was to play a large normally built army, with then Alpha player of the teams commanding the infantry, and Bravo running the tanks and big guns. So you were pretty much force to cooperate and think of a strategy together jand in hand.

Otherwise simply hatch a scenario where deployments end up mixing the teams' armies.

40k: Necrons/Imperial Guard/ Space marines
Bolt Action: Germany/ USA
Project Z.

"The Dakka Dive Bar is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure you might not find a good amasec but they grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for ratlings being thrown through windows and you'll be alright." Ciaphas Cain, probably.

I have played 40k and it’s got nothing to do with it. If I remember correctly some of the missions were pinched or adapted from the Normandy board game .

Also a board game called Ambush and countless more lol

I've had that in 40k, but not Bolt Action. Our team games sort themselves out naturally because each player keeps their own dice color and if you want to minimize luck of the draw for your side, both players have to intermingle their units so that if one player draws a die, he can act anywhere on the board and not just, for example, his designated board half.

Works flawlessly for us.

Cheers guys. Appreciate the help, I had not played BA 2v2 before this post so I was only assuming it would be similar to 40k in terms of teamwork.

Will come up with a cocktail of rules to make it more fun though!
