A while ago I bought some cheap plastic space ships to use for Battletech planes and stuff. EM4 used to do them but they are pretty easy to find.

Whats eluded me so far is cheap plastic monsters- fantasy monsters like trolls and ogres produced in the same way ( available in bags of loads for pretty cheap)

Does anyone know of a source? I'm primarily looking for cheap replacements for ur-ghuls but interested in other cheap monsters too.

Plastic ur-ghuls split from Blackstone Fortress are not too bad on eBay.

Look for 54mm Russian plastics on eBay. You can find werewolves, minotaurs and orcs (=trolls) in hard or soft plastic, maybe £6-8 for 4 including shipping.

How big do you want to go? Papo dinosaurs come ready painted - beautifully, and better than Schleich animals - but are huge, often 8-12 inches long or bigger. Soft plastic toy dinosaurs often look great after a repaint.

Actially - Schleich animals are good for giant cats or wolves, or an invasion of killer bunnies...

There's a range of "dig out your own prehistoric animals" that build into decent skeletal monsters

Disney sells a cheap tube of plastic creatures from the Avatar films. Amazon will have lots of tubes of farmyard or zoo animals.

Check HobbyLobby.com, diorama figures, safari ltd., or toob, not seeing trolls and such, but they have dragons, unicorns and other creatures.

Reaper Bones is superb for monsters. It's poor on smaller 28/32mm figures...but gets better the bigger the miniature. Not on the EM4 level of cheap, but the only way to get there is Russian blind-bags. That company Technolog does some super cheap stuff.
