This is going to be my second time playing 8th edtion and Ive just recently picked up the new codex

Ive heard from a lot of people that Eldar are very strong and will be hard to beat so I'm looking for any feedback that will give me an edge
I believe he is trying to bring longer range guns than me, forcing me to move towards him, and also take units that deny my overwatch shots.

So here is my 2000 list

Brigade

HQ
Aun'va
Cadre Fireblade
Darkstrider

Troops
5 FW
5 FW
5 FW
5 FW
5 FW
5 FW

Fast
10 Pathfinder
12 Shield Drones
12 Shield Drones

Elite
Riptide, heavy burst, SMS, Target lock, ATS
Riptide, heavy burst, SMS, Target lock, VT
Riptide, Ion Accelorator, SMS, TL, VT

Heavy
Broadside, HYMP, SMS, SG
Broadside, HYMP, SMS, SG
Broadside, HRR, SMS, SG

This leaves me with 80 pts left over..
Things I'm considering is getting rid of darkstrider for a commander

Any suggestions are appreciated

I'd drop drop darkstrider and aunva and get shadowsun and a normal ethereal.

Also marker lights, you're better off with marksmen than pathfinders. If your opponent is bringing lots of guns then they will just die turn one.

I'd also drop the brigade and go dual battalion as it gives you more flexibility.

And once you get shadowsun, you can drop the target locks from the riptides. ATS + VT is the ideal eldar riptide.

Is Shadowsun just used for the Master of war ability?
I don't have a lot of experience with this set so I'm not great at seeing the good in certain models?

And are pathfinders even good anymore?
they seem pretty weak now.

Also I think my opponents plan was to send in lots of guardians to take out my shield drones will his big stuff shoots from a distance, is there any good tactic against this?

Shadowsun is good because you can master of war twice and she can use the command and control node strategem.

Pathfinder are just easily killed, T3 with a 5+. Plus their BS doesn't give you reliable marker light hits.

Best thing to do is hide your shield drones behind cover so you're opponent has to get close to take them out. If you're worried about long range firepower then more broadsides or deep striking crisis suits work well. You can even take longstrike and some ionheads.

Ok,
What about an aegis defense line?
Are those ever taken or considered playable anymore?

And if I dropped the pathfinders all together, do I replace them with more shield drones or what?

1 Markerlight isn't too helpful.
2. I'd run all riptide the same, all HBC.
3. if you don't want to run marksmen, then you might want to give firewarrriors markerlights, or run a mix of sheild drone + markerlight drone and something with a drone controller

Don't bother with the fortifications, they aren't worth it.

Your maths is a bit off too, you've got 36 points left over with that list. It looks fairly solid. Only change I might suggest is to cut the drone squads down to 7 rather than 9. That's give you 96 points to work with. That would give you enough to get 3 firesight marksmen.

You could instead also change the third riptide to a burst cannon over the ion weapon you'd have 111 points left which would be enough for another broadside.

A few options for you to consider.

One tactic to consider, is to sacrifice one models heavy fire power to shoot at something you don't really intend to shoot at. And hope they employ LFR. Then ignore that target and kill other stuff.

Obviously depending on the situation and the opposing player, that might not work but its a gamble worth considering if you can target priority things of relatively equal threat.

LFR is our strongest stratagem and as an Eldar player I hope people keep sinking fire power into the thing I LFR on. Our army really doesn't like casualties of any kind, most often we have to play the points game and use the mobility because we don't have enough to outfight/outgun opponents in retaliaon.
