So, I don't game, and I have no idea how the system works. But because I like my models to be 'legal' in a sense, I have a quick question. A lot of SM vehicles have sponson weapons or mini turrets - when modelling these weapons in a converted piece, should I mimic the official firing arcs, or am I free to place the weapons where I like, because the gaming system does not distinguish weapon position, only their inclusion.
For example. If I have a Repulsor Executioner and I re position the two Storm Bolter turrets to be in a single, 360 mount on the turret roof (Like a remote weapons station on modern MBTs) - is this legal or illegal in play? Or if I was to take the heavy stubber and place it coaxially alongside the main gun?
Like I say, I have no idea how the game system distinguishes weapon firing. I'd assume that the arcs DO matter, but I'm hoping the opposite is true and you just have to demonstrate they're present

Arcs no longer exist in 8th so it doesn't matter where you put the weapons.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

This.
Though I would put them in relatively the same places should you ever decide to play/sell them on and GW decides to one day bring them back (doubtful, but still...).

Nothing about the model beyond it's profile matters in the rules. And profile only matters for LOS to the model as a whole.
There are no firing arcs (starting with 8th Ed). Model however you think looks cool. And you don't even need to demonstrate that they're present (but you should).

Ahhh, thank you chaps/chapettes - that is good news indeed! I'll just do them how I please then. I have to admit, I think it makes sense to dispense with firing arcs in a way, as a vehicle is likely to re-position itself constantly to use weapon systems in combat, and seeing as you don't replicate those in game, why would you replicate the firing arcs. But hey, I don't play so my opinion is invalid
Thanks again

It's entirely possible Firing Arcs will return.
Putting a converted sponson/weapon in roughly the same place with roughly the same arc would be good- if you take it out of a sponson and put it in something else that would have the same arc, that works too., but even when they had firing arcs, they usually didn't really specify what those arcs were.
