I want to run an all dreadnought list. I have the close combat dread figured but I want to run a few with double range weapons. Battle scribe says I can have both a left and a right Auto cannon. That would be 8 strenght 7, 2 damage weapons. I want to run a couple of those and a couple lase cannon auto cannon Dreads. Battle scribe says rhose are do able too. But they aren't in any of the codexes I have looked in. Nor are the weapons in any of the kits? Normally battle scribe is pretty good they don't get things wrong. But I can't use it if I don't have the rules.
2 questions.
First where are the rules for off hand twin linked auto cannons?
Second where can I buy auto cannons for dreads? What kit do they come in?

TLAC arm is from Index Imperium 1.
FW might still sell them, or kitbash from assorted parts a/o 3rd party.
I made some from the Aegis defense line gun.

Yeah the twin-linked autocannons are from a "Mortis" dreadnought from Imperial Armour, Index: Forces of the Adeptus Astartes. You can find some third party samples for the autocannons or simply make them yourself. Dreadnought arms are pretty easy to modify.
This looks like it's a tongue-in cheek version made explicitly for that purpose.
Bitspudlo Hoplite Flak Cannon ---- note the guns inverted actually share the shape of a dreadnought arm? I suspect you'd simply pop them off the turret and use them directly on your dreadnought. Available on eBay and Hexy Shop, etc.

Twin autocannons are good but a rocket is cheaper and also good. I do just fine with the rockets.

So is battle scribe wrong? It says I can put off hand twin auto cannons on regular and venerable dreads.

It's not wrong but those are Index options, not Codex. Automatically Appended Next Post:

That would be a fun army. An entire chapter or dreadnoughts. You get inducted, become a scout, 3 days later brain transplanted into a Dreadnought.

Can people stop acting like index options are some taboo thing, I swear it's getting to Voldemort levels lately. It almost reminds me of the insanity of how people used to treat forgeworld units back in the day.

Even index options will remain as long as people feel like using them. Not everyone is playing according to tournament rules or restrictions. Even in pick-up games I don't imagine most people would care that you're running an Ork Warboss on a Bike, etc.

Unfortunately ETC alloy neither index or FW.
But while it might not as bad as the sky is falling as some make out you tried to find a copy of the index's new.

Dreads with two autocannons can be played if you agree with your opponent that the index can still be used.
For instance, I play 3 Dreads with autocannons in my GK army accompanied by 2 Techmarines and they rarely die.
The autocannons were taken from the Aegis defense lines as said above.

And if your opponent doesn't agree, then you just them as a legal mortis dreadnought from Imperial Armour - not seeing the issue.

Your opponent doesn't need to agree, they're a legitimate part of the game.
Unless you play games where you have to agree with your opponent to be able to use Tactical Squads.

In a way, you always play with your opponent's agreement, but yeah, the Index is pretty clearly still a supported and valid source of "legal" rules - There's even a FAQ for it.

No, it's just not telling you what book(s) you need to look in.
Go to EBay, search for a copy of Index Imperium 1. Buy it.
Go to Forge World, search for a copy of Index Forces of the Astartes. Buy it.

So what? TODAY they are still legal. And playing the game today counts more than fretting about tomorrow.

Well Spacemarines are about to get a new codex and potentially even start on a whole host of FAQ's etc for FW unit's and if GW even deem to address Index units otherwise it's going to be hard arguing that index units benifit from the new codex's rules.

Eh, that's still up to your and your buddy. My buddy plays Guard. We let him add a horse to his officers for 10 points so he can run them with his Rough Riders. We also let Rough Riders receive orders because they would have been subject to orders had they made it into the Codex, etc. We're not playing in tournaments so why limit our fun and common sense if we don't need to?
Way too many people worry far too much about the "rules" of this game. You don't need to have a free-for-all to enjoy some common sense in making the game better.

Index options are in a pretty shady place. Technically they're still legal...kinda...but it's pretty clear that the only reason they're still around is because GW didn't want to piss people off who had the old models. They're not really supported in the codexes and GW doesn't usually update their points costs so they have a tendency to wither go obsolete or break stuff. That last sentence is only true if you already own the things. If you haven't bought them yet, fretting about tomorrow is a dam good idea.
