Squad has 5 bikes and 5 veterans. If I take the wounds on the bikes first, does that mean t he shooter has to roll wounds 1 at a time until the first biker is dead? Or do they roll the wounds all together and I get 5 toughness based on when the unit took the shot?

This is answered in the datasheet for veterans...
A unit of Veterans can contain models with different Toughness characteristics. If this is the case, use the Toughness characteristic of the majority of the models in the unit when the enemy makes wound rolls against it. If there is no majority, the Deathwatch player can choose which of the values is used.

So that means, if I get shot I gotta roll bolter wounds 1 at a time until the first biker is dead, then I roll bolter shot until a veteran is dead, then I roll until another bike is dead, etc. Wow, so tedious. A good way to waste the shooters time in ITC though

All units that have mixed toughness have a bespoke rule telling you how to deal with it.

Yeah, which says I can choose toughness 5 when they are equal. But if one of them dies, the next wound roll should be against toughness 4. If I let that one die, it reverts back to toughness 5 because now there is 4/4. That’s what’s really tedious about this rule.
Just wanted clarification that it wasn’t all done at the same time, meaning that they don’t just all use T5 after a unit selects a target.

The opponent can Fast Roll their dice against a single toughness value. That decision is up to the attacking player. BRB Page 179. The attacker can roll to hit, then to wound. You then allocate wounds and roll to save one by one.

This.
You can still fast roll as the attacker, then all attacks being fast rolled will use the toughness as determined at the time you make all the wound rolls.

So they could possibly roll until they kill one t5 guy and then roll all the dice for the t4 guys? This also doesn’t seem to be part of the rules as the rules for fast rerolls state they must be resolved as if individually. If individually makes a difference then you cant fast reroll against t4 because that would not be “as” if it was rolled one at a time.

Nothing in the fast rolling rule says that you can't do it if it would make a difference.

No it says you must resolve them as if they were rolled one at a time. You can fast reroll them, but how would you resolve them as if they were rolled one at a time? The wording is meant to prevent you from gaming results through fast rerolling.

We already had this. What has been rolled, has been rolled. No going back in time. Nothing in the fast dice rolling says you cant do it if it makes any difference.
In order to make several attacks at once, all of the attacks must have the same Ballistic Skill (if it’s a shooting attack) or the same Weapon Skill (if it’s a close combat attack). They must also have the same Strength, Armour Penetration and Damage characteristics, and they must be directed at the same unit. If this is the case, make all of the hit rolls at the same time, then all of the wound rolls.
Complain to GW if you dont like it.

I don’t need to. It says in the rules you have to resolve it like it was done one at a time. If you can’t do that, you can’t fast reroll. Unless you can explain how you resolve them as if one at a time in this scenario.

There is nothing in the fast dice rolling rule saying that. It says "Your opponent can then allocate the wounds one at a time, making the saving throws and suffering damage each time as appropriate."

It’s a hard choice. I have only a single storm shield sergeant. The other 4 are frag cannons. I may not want to lose storm shield early.

I don't play DW, but are you sure 4 frag cannon in a single squad is a legal load out to begin with?
