I had come up with the idea a couple months ago, a monthly subscription box.



a nice baggie full of random bits, and not all from GW, a nice 1 inch of green stuff, a small cutting of transfer sheet, basing material, a base, and a fancy pin.


I'm actually all set up and ready to go with it. I have more bits than I can shake a stick at, and some from back in the '90s. I thought this would be a cool idea.

as well as a monthly challenge. the winner getting an extra thing of bits.

What's the buy in? whats the volume of bits ? I probably would rarely make one model a month as I'm struggling to paint one thing a month for the painting change lol...

I like the idea for random bits. I only collect eldar so that's all I have to work with and it sure would be nice to take a break and do one offs...

But, I think the basing material, green stuff and maybe the pin are unnecessary, however it is a nice gesture. Unless it was some exotic texture/materials...Maybe chains etc. But greenstuff/sand etc. is in every P&M enthusiast/ modeller toolkit already. I have more green stuff from way back than I will ever use unless I start sculpting some big monsters..

Bits, on the other hand are always in demand. Especially funky bits...

I had been pretty sure of 20 dollars, the number felt right and I think with that amount ill be able to keep replenishing the bits. that i send out, and that ill be going all around the internet for cool bits. i have my eyes on a couple that I think people would love.

the baggies I have are three and a half by two-inch plastic baggies, I can cram a surprising amount of bits in it.

i can sympathize with needing a break. its how I started and will probably never finish my ork army. . . it's just the perfect weird conversion army. it just ends up with me buying entire friggen boxes for a stupid head. *sigh* and, it leaves me with innumerable amounts of bits, and thought this would be way cooler than like, a bits sale site.

I think your right, it wasnt really something i thought about i think. . . but ya, i think you ARE right about exotic things that people might not have. . .I have a few things that might be pretty cool.

I have a lot of pretty cool things that i threw into the bits bin, bout to add some squigs and gargoyle bits. imma make some flying squigs.

That said, my own answer depends very much on whether your're just trying to unload crap you don't need. If what you have is mostly leftovers from building kits, that's not worth much.

I think people would do it. The same thing has occurred to me in the past and IIRC, I've occasionally seen "blind box" single minis on ebay. People like a little mystery. Some thoughts on how to market this: by weight? by sheer number/quantity of bits included? (e.g., at least 10x or 20x bits in every box) If you're going to try and have consistent ratios then maybe that's worth stating... like if any whole models would be included, or which factions the bits would be from (SM, Guard, Orks, Eldar, etc.), if any metal bits are/might be in there, etc. You don't have to be exact, just give people a general idea of what might be included. Pricing is a factor too. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, but for me $20 or less is almost a no-brainer, especially if it includes shipping. If they were $10, then it would basically be an auto-buy and they'd fly out the door. I would imagine you would only include a few random bits at that price, but that's up to you. I think throwing in the basing, GS, etc as a bonus is a nice gesture but not the deciding factor in why someone would buy a grab bag like this.
