There has been a number of people commenting about the scale used for the new Aeronauticus models and how they compare with the new Titanicus and old Forge World stuff. Some people have observed that the Marauder Bomber in the new game looks too small next to the Thunderbolt. Even adjusting for the photographic trickery used, people just aren't sure if the scale is correct.

I'm posting pictures of the old Forge World models. This should give you some idea about how the aircraft look when scaled properly relative to the other aircraft. I've included a Titanicus Knight in the pictures so you can get a sense of the scale next to the Titanicus stuff. Note, the Marauder Bomber looks screwy because the housing piece for the front gun turret was never shipped with the kit. I did try contact FW customer service but in those days getting through to someone was a real nightmare. Then other priorities took over and these got put into the bits box of history. For now, I don't have the models for the new Aeronauticus for comparison so hopefully someone else can post comparison photos.

So, I hope this helps answer some of your questions about scale between the old models and how they look along side the current Titanicus ones.

The scale looks fine:

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I think people fail to realise just how huge the thunderbolt is.

I think part of the issues is that GW enlarged the photo of the Thunderbolt to make it look the same size as the Marauder. When people tried to resize it so the bases were identical, they didn't quite get it right.

Either way, it's nice to see these coming out in plastic.

To be honest people don't realize how big real jets are. I grew up a Navy kid so I appreciate it but did you know the F14 Tomcat was 64' long? Next time you drive by your average city bus just remember that jet is over 1.5 times that long.

Modern jets are big, like 15 to 20m long. Early jets were a lot smaller, the F86 was about 11m, WW2 fighters were 9 to 10m long, WW1 fighters were more like 5 to 6m long.

Compared to cars that are about 4 to 5m long.

As aircraft get higher supersonic speeds, the shock wave angle narrows so the planes naturally get longer but shorter wing span to fit behind the shockwave off the nose. Most 40k aircraft wouldn't happily be able to go supersonic, or if they did they'd be horrible unstable because the wings would cut through the shockwaves formed off the nose.

So it kind of depends what style of aircraft 40k is shooting for, the mostly struck me as a mashup of early jets and WW2 prop planes with jets jammed in to them.

Yeah, the style of the game is more WWII/korea- with Sci-fi stuff thrown in.

Missiles do not play a huge part and it is all about shooting things with guns.
