Just pouring one out here for those BT players, and those Shrike/vulcan/pedro players Who currently dont have a viable way to run the units they always have done, and have no specific time line for when these units will recieve new and playable rules. We really need an 'index' flow chart for the previous codex to tide these poor unfortunate players over.

I thought the PDF was for the Non-Codex Chapters? If they were other Codex Chapters, I'm going to assume they can use the old codex either entirely or piecemeal until their supplement comes out and they switch over. I'm kind of surprised they didn't mention the Indomitus collector's edition would be released each time they add a Supplement for a Collector's Combo Edition like they did with White Scars and UM.

From the News & Rumors thread:

Of course someone will say "...but the index". Well that's a pretty absurd idea too, you telling me that its acceptable that we have to go BACK to a book that was made obsolete years ago in order to use previous versions of characters? lol.. also those characters dont have the Angels of Death rule.
From the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page:
Warhammer 40,000 wrote:Special characters and units that aren't yet covered in their own supplement (such as Captain Lysander or Crusader Squads) will be included in a free PDF which will be available alongside the release of the new Codex, so you won't need to wait to use these models.

I just find it absolutely baffling, given the speed of Codex turnover these days, how anyone ever buys those Collectors' Edition books.

I think we missed the definition of "collectors".

Because some of us have specific Chapters we like and have played for a long time, have advocated for these kinds of Supplements for a long time, and are genuinely happy to see it?
Crazy thought, right?
If they do this for Cadians, Stygies, and T'au? I'll buy the collector's editions of those too. I think it's a great way to give players a book that is just their preferred subfaction, with signature units and their characters without the main book having to be a bloated mess necessitating huge mechanical changes as metas shift from "I play X" to "I play Y now, cause X got nerfed".

You need to move more. I only had to move 4 times in 3 years and suddenly my book collection got donated to the local library and the game books sold on ebay and I bought a nice tablet with electronic copies.
All joking aside, that is great, but in the world of people, pretending the "collector group" is very large isn't right. That is why GW limited it to 800 copies. Cause they would only sell about 1K copies. (THat is the way I've heard the math described before on Collector stuff)
Everyone has to do their own thing, but the move is to electronic. I'm friends with a couple author types. Discussion about it with them has been that sales, 90% is off amazon. 85% of those sales are electronic.

You're confusing "collector's edition"(the Indomitus) with the "limited edition".

Umm having supplement and collector editions aren't same. You can have supplement without paying 170€ extra every 2 years or so codexes come out.
Also this supplementary thing hurts wallet of competive players even more. Rather than pay one codex for 32.5€ you pay 32.5€+multiple 22.50€ supplements. 200€+multiple 55€ if you want collector editions.
The extra price(6 times...) basically gets invalidated every 2 years or so with new codex and you end up with expensive paper weight.

the supplements I see as being useful for lore, a lot of the chapters haven't got this kind of in depth treatment in awehile so for fans of a partiuclar chapter this'll be a rare treat indeed. even Ultramarines fans look to be getting mountains of new information

As a BT player who only came back for the tacticool primaris stuff, I just want a data sheet for a Primaris Emperor's Champion. I've already built some models for it.
Also hoping Psyker Awakening event press my BT Lost librarians into the light. Which I guess means I need to finish painting them lol

It's not meta-chasing though is it? The current codex literally just got invalidated. At a minimum we ( SM players) all need to buy the core codex and any supplements that cover the models we have.

yeah the loss of special characters from the main codex hurts, but it's obviously been done to prevent the SM codex from turning into a 400 page mess as it's allowed em to cut 25 pages from the codex.

Agreed. Although I'm salty about having to replace my existing codex and datacards, I do think this new format will be better. And as I said on another thread, I can probably get away with just buying the core codex and datacards as I don't actually run any UM-specific characters. Thankfully the chapter tactics are in the main rulebook. For others though this is going to be very expensive.
