Wife wants to collect the upcoming sisters of battle so I bought this one to set her paint scheme and because.. it's a great sculpt.
Painted mostly with washes, very thin paint, and contrast.
The base was a real triumph of contrast. Natural Stone is really hard to do as it is full of tone variation. But Contrast made it easy.. one coat and drybrush. The way the contrast paints mix with each other and blend is so powerful (esp when they are wet, ala wet blending).
If there was one downside to the model it is the shoulder pad detail. The Fleur
de Lay is.. well not cast correctly nor very deep so it's a challenge to make it pop and look good. The same holds true for the Eagle but the eagle was more defined.
The Ivory Armor paint was straight forward.
Wraithbone, thinned Skeleton Horde, wraithbone+pallid witch flesh, pallid witch flesh+ white.
The gold is all VMC Alum + thinned Gore Grunta.
Black Templar is great too.
All the browns are tan + contrast + highlight. The reds are from Flesh Tearer. The skin is also done with contrast + highlighting.
The stone for the base was a wet-blend and pigment push (to change opacity) of 6 different contrast paints... including some green and blue (but very little). Roses are P3 Red Ink + white and a little bit of yellow. The red around the skull is pure P3 Red Ink, carefully laid on. Inks are NOT contrast paints. Different animals entirely to work with.
This was pretty fast to paint too, despite the detail with most of the time wasted on me sorting out how, what, and method as I was trying to move into some new areas and try out more of the contrasts.
Also, nothing like viewing one's own photos to notice errors and oopses.
