its been a while since Ive posted anything here but I shall get right to the point with the scenario because another T'au player (I joined the Imperial Guard) is giving us literal hell.

The Scenario:

Two Full squads of Broadside battle suits and their accompanying drones are supported by another 20 shield drone squad.

This 20 drone blob is kept OUT of LOS and as such is a free pool of 20 wounds for these broadsides to pull from.

Using Tallaran strategies I hope to drop a Baneblade and a conscript blob behind them and create a much more immediate threat.

In an effort to stop the drones from becoming any more of a nuisance, I plan to charge them (They cant shoot back, no loss on a failed charge)

With the larger threat now bearing down on the Tau, I could open fire with the bane blade into the Broadsides and hopefully bypass the stupid Savior Protocols to inflict as much pain as possible .


The Question:

Can these melee stuck drones use their savior protocols to take wounds for the broadsides outside of their melee combat??

If so, what would be a better option for a swift and unforgiving slaughter of the Broadsides and the drones?
So far I have Basilisk artillery as the primary contender.

Whether the drones, the Broadsides, or both are locked in combat the T'au player will still be able to make use of Saviour Protocols.

Most competitive Imperial Guard-centric lists bring at least one Basilisk and at least one Wyvern in an Emperor's Wrath detachment. A Wyvern which ignores cover and fires its main gun twice per turn will make pretty short work of shield drones. That's a much more sound strategy than an outflanking Baneblade, and/or a Conscript charge.

Saviour Protocols does not care about being within 1" of enemy units in either regard.
